Communicating Math On The Net communicating math on the Internet. by John Gresham, PhD Much work is beingdone on communicating math electronically and we can look forward increasing http://www.ranger.cc.tx.us/math/math_on_net.htm
Extractions: After you register for the internet section of Math 1314, you will receive a login, password, and syllabus at your initial meeting with the instructor. This will allow you to access the college algebra material on the server. We will discuss course mechanics and in particular, spend some time in dealing with the question of how to communicate mathematical material over the internet. This article outlines some of the problems and how we deal with them at Ranger College. In a regular classroom, math is communicated by grabbing a sheet of paper and writing the appropriate symbols. The instructor generally does this on a blackboard. However, many of the symbols we use frequently in math are not available on the computer keyboard, and so some other method must be employed to communicate electronically. Here are some possibilities: 1. Take the sheet of paper and simply send it by fax! Of course, this technique requires both sender and receiver to have a fax machine available at all times and bypasses the internet altogether. 2. Scan the handwritten sheet, create a graphic file, and attach it to email. The problem here is that the graphic file may be huge, and this would present a bandwidth problem if either party had a slow connection.

Help Communicating Math This site is dedicated to the process of using technology to prepare math andtechnical documents. As such, it is NOT dedicated to figuring out ways to use http://www.newebgroup.com/rod/mshelp/MainWindow1.htm
Extractions: This site is dedicated to the process of using technology to prepare math and technical documents. As such, it is NOT dedicated to figuring out ways to use technology while avoiding what that technology can do. Technology is here to stay. The idea is NOT to use technology to prepare what we would have prepared without technology. There are many who prefer this, but it is not supported here. What you WON'T find on this site I will leave these techniques to other sites. I believe that students of this technique will wonder someday why the capabilities of the software were kept secret. But teachers using these techniques believe that it is better for the student to do things this way. This site is dedicated to unleashing the power of the software.
