Of the eighteen new students, 11 are enrolled in our Ph.D. doctoral program, and 7 in our Master's program. Of these new degree students, 13 are U.S. citizens or permanent residents and 5 are international students. There are 11 women and 7 men, and their prior degrees are distributed as follows (2 with a Ph.D., 9 have at least a prior Master's degree, 7 enter with Bachelor's degrees). The Department welcomes the new students to our program and wishes them every success during their stay with us and beyond. Professor Richard Gelber has been named an award recipient by the Jacqueline Seroussi Memorial Foundation for Cancer Research. The prize, which was awarded for fundamental contributions to the interpretation of clinical trial results leading to better understanding of treatment benefits for breast cancer patients, will be presented to Professor Gelber at a ceremony in Tel Aviv, Israel on December 2, 2005.
