Autism is a disorder of brain development characterized by deficits in language, learning and social interaction. It typically appears during the first three years of life and affects males about four times more often than females across all income strata and ethnic groups. The National Institutes of Health note that prevalence studies have been done in several states and also in the United Kingdom, Europe, and Asia.
