Extractions: Waka Hasegawa and Joseph Tong formed their piano duet in 1997 at the Royal Academy of Music in London , and are rapidly establishing themselves as one of Britain fs most versatile and exciting young duos. They were prizewinners at the 2001 Schubert International Competition for Piano Duos in the Czech Republic , and made their London debut in the Park Lane Group Young Artists Series at the Purcell Room last year to critical acclaim.Joseph Tong and Waka Hasegawa made their Wigmore Hall debut for the Kirckman Concert Society earlier this year and have recently given recitals at the Turner Sims Hall in Southampton , the Warehouse, London and in the Mayfair Concerts series. They have recently been selected to give the opening recital in the South Bank Centrefs Autumn FRESH Series this October. Their repertoire is unusually wide-ranging and encompasses original works and arrangements from Bach through to the present day. In 2001 they gave the first performance of Constant Lambertfs Prize Fight (original duet version) at the Royal Opera House Linbury Studio as part of the PLG Lambert 50 th Anniversary Tribute. After discovering that there were only a relatively small number of contemporary duets, the duo decided to generate new interest by setting up the Tong Piano Duet Competition for Composers with support from the Great Britain Sasakawa Foundation and Japan 2001. This resulted in the first performances of four new duets by British, Finnish and Japanese composers in
