Decca had me gevraagd een recital op te nemen met de meest bekende werken van Erik Satie. Ik heb me in deze muziek verdiept en nog onuitgegeven schatten ontdekt die nog nooit eerder waren opgenomen. Hierdoor ontstond het idee om het pianowerk van Satie integraal op te nemen. Het werden zes volumes, waarvan het eerste album de titel meekreeg: The Magic of Satie. Ik ben werkelijk in de ban geraakt van deze componist die eigenlijk nooit de plaats heeft gekregen die hij verdiende, nooit erkend is geworden als ernstig componist naast Debussy of Ravel. Men beseft niet hoe belangrijk hij is geweest. Hij was een visionair musicus. Sommige van zijn partituren uit het begin van de 20ste eeuw hebben John Cage in de jaren 1950 geïnspireerd. Als u het mij vraagt, was Satie de eerste minimalist. U begrijpt dat ik na een integrale van Ravel en Debussy dit parcours van Franse componisten heb willen voortzetten met een artiest als Satie.

Over the past seventeen years, he has performed with virtually every major orchestra in the world. Elegant and engaging, Jean-Yves Thibaudet is a master of the great Romantic concerto repertoire, as well as the more intimate music of Debussy and Ravel. Comissiona replaces Kees Bakels, who is unable to appear with the Symphony due to visa issues.
