Bennie Smith Bennie smith is the dean of St. Louis electric guitarists. He began to playout with George and Doc Perry over on franklin. Like Ace Wallace he played http://www.bluesworld.com/ONEEYE.html
Extractions: Bennie Smith is the dean of St. Louis electric guitarists. His shy manner belies an awesome talent. Born in St. Louis on October 5, 1933 the seventh son in a family of fourteen Bennie began playing on a ukelele brought back from the Pacific by a cousin called Hayfall who played a song Bennie still recalls called Slewfoot Floozie With Your Flaws Off . Soon his brother Ivory bought him a battered accoustic with two or three strings. Near 8th and Park he traced strains of blues to an old fellow from Mississippi named Butch McCray who taught him some techniques. He heard more music emanating from the building at Jefferson and Chouteau and two fellows came walking out, the brothers George and Doc Perry. Benny investigated and encountered Ace Wallace who taught him "how to hold the guitar, squeeze it, caress it." He began to play out with George and Doc Perry over on Franklin. Like Ace Wallace he played with Gabriel's band. Bennie's amp was a converted cathedral radio. Gabriel's trumpet was covered with scotch tape. "Anyplace that wasn't taped up wasn't his horn". There was a trip to Ft. Leonardwood in Gabriel's battered '50 Chevy Carryall that needed oil every ten miles. Jack Woogie was the piano player, and Nick Nicodemous, called "Chops" played sax. After his stint with Gabriel Bennie joined the Roosevelt Marks Orchestra . Roosevelt got all the work Ike Turner couldn't handle, and was the first black band to play on local television. The band included Roosevelt on bass, Bennie on guitar, St. Louis Jimmy (James Walls) on piano (and later, Clayton Love), Eugene Washington on sax, Houston Walls, Jimmy's brother, on sax, and L.C. Davis on vocals. L.C. Davis is Larry Davis who went on the play with Z.Z. Hill, Albert King, and B.B. King and who became a star in his own right. Washington was a dead ringer for Louis Jordan in looks and style, and there was an occasion when the two played together in East St. Louis. "You couldn't tell 'em apart!" The Roosevelt Marks Orchestra recorded several excellent singles for the St. Louis based

Jazz Piano Online Even if the pianist is not the star, he is a kind of an aristocrat. Foster,Al France, Nic franklin, Aretha Freeman, Russ Friedman, Don Frishberg, Dave http://www.geocities.com/BourbonStreet/Delta/2790/people.html
Extractions: It is observed that the whole history of jazz can be read through the chart of the stylistic development of the pianists. They started it all and other instrumentalists use the techniques which they developed. Even if the pianist is not the star, he is a kind of an aristocrat. He is practically alone and can manage by himself if necessary. Over the years, respect for the role of the jazz pianist has increased. This page will eventually be more descriptive and include many more pianists. I am gradually writing more on people and gathering links. If you would like me to hurry up on one person in particular that you see below, let me know. Tell me who I need to add to this list!!! Send me links, anecdotes, samples of their work, anything.. And yes, you can nominate yourself to be on here. This list is for any jazz pianist. Thanks to all of you who have already submitted information and links!!! Andreas Baer

Extractions: The short version of this letter is easy. THANK YOU VERY MUCH for supporting Louis Wus Birthday We feel that we satisfied our goal of throwing a memorable party at Noreascon Three, but this goal was reached only due to the creativity, time, and funds of over 150 volunteer fans and several fan and pro organizations. This was an extraordinary effort by all concerned, and we could not have done this without your help. You should know that we have received many verbal and written compliments from the Noreascon Three committee; Mark Olson, convention chairman, specifically asked that we express his appreciation to all concerned. We would ask that, should you hear about future plans for a Boxboro Fandom party, please remind us to "Just Say No!" (by the way, over 800 of you did just that at our Death of A Fandom party on Sunday night thanks for your energy and support!!). Again, thank you all for being part of our definitive extravaganza. P.S. The long version of this letter is harder wed like to mention everyone who helped out. We did not get on paper the names of many fen who helped our thanks to them is even more heartfelt. If you know anyone who helped but who is not listed, please send them a copy of this thank you or send their name and address to Boxboro Fandom c/o Steve Boheim 50 MacIntosh Lane Boxboro Mass. 01719.

Extractions: NOTES "Great Caesar's Ghost is a band of of seven accomplished musicians that give their interpretation of great american music. Much like jazz and classical musicians, they strive to re-read the great compositions of decades past. Included in their repertoire are selections from the blues and rock oriented music of the late sixties and early seventies era. This includes The Grateful Dead, The Allman Brothers Band, many of the Blues Masters, and more. GCG's sound is generated by four guitars, bass, a Hammond B-3, congas, timbales, and dual drum kits, which capture the true spirit of the music that they play. For those who like jam oriented blues/rock, or simply good time party music, Great Caesar's Ghost will not dissapoint."

Born in Leland, Mississippi, he collaborated with Anthony Braxton in Chicagos AACM avant-garde collective and contributed the title tune to Braxtons Silence (1969), "as radical an incorporation of blank space into sound construction as any post-free player has made" according to writer John Corbett in the redoubtable Jazz: The Rough Guide . Extractions: Dan Levitan, Harp Total time: 50:37 Lou Silver Harrison is an American icon. This octogenarian from California studied with Henry Cowell, worked with John Cage, and was a champion of the music of Ives. Like many from the left-coast, (as Lush Rumbaugh would say) he has always been a rebel. After much experimentation with the new music forms of the twentieth century, he rejected them and went in search of other voices and flavors. Go to the FDR Memorial page Go to the Washington World section The Washington Post The Washington Post received more than 800 submissions from readers who responded to our request to share their memories and memorabilia of Franklin Delano Roosevelt and his era. Many of those we heard from loved FDR; a few hated him. In letters, faxes and e-mail, people from the region and across the country told us poignant and sometimes humorous stories of the Depression and World War II and of how FDR's presidency affected their lives or the lives of loved ones. The Post will publish a selection of those stories through Friday, when the FDR Memorial will be dedicated. Many submissions were shortened and altered slightly for space and clarity. Some were augmented with additional interviews.
