The word music itself comes for the Greek word musiki, meaning all the arts of the nine Muses. Apollo , son of Zeus , was the leader of the Muses, as master athlete and warrior as well as master musician. Mount Parnassus came to be thought of as the home of music." Extractions: Kronos Caravan OK so let me be disingenuous. This CD is of an 11-year old pianist and I think the adults responsible for bringing young Albert Wong into the recording studio should have known better. Sure hes a remarkably talented pianist a child prodigy indeed but this pianism should be kept out of the professional arena until hes mature enough to understand what being a successful adult concert pianist is all about. Theres apparently no stopping him, however, or the people encouraging him. This Clementi disk is the follow-up to his debut CD Book 2 of Bachs Well Tempered Clavier, recorded when he was 10. Hes played at Carnegie Hall, during Earl Wilds 85th birthday concert, and regularly appears on TV shows and in concerts in the US, particularly in his home state of Texas.

In this special, we bring you to the semi-finals (Stage IV) of The Sydney International Piano Competition of Australia, in reflections by Dr Chang Tou Liang from the York Theatre, Seymour Centre, Sydney University. This review has been kindly sponsored by the Sydney International Piano Competition by CHANG Tou Liang Make no mistake about it. The Sydney International Piano Competition ( links to the website above) is the "big one" in the Pan Asia-Australo-Oceanian hemisphere of international piano concours . I dare say Sydney stands head-to-head with Leeds, Brussels, Forth Worth, Moscow and Warsaw in the elite of piano competition organising cities. The way this competition keeps a nation (or in this case, a continent) gripped through its broadcasts on the Australian Broadcasting Corporation (ABC), its legacy of recordings on the ABC Classics label and the level of hospitality it offers its guests speak volumes on the expertly and highly professional way it is run. By all standards, this is a young competition. First run in 1977, its maiden competition boasted Andre Laplante, Daniel Blumenthal, Dennis Lee

There were three major cultural events in the Olympic city of Volos as part of ATHENS 2004 cultural programme. The programme of cultural events for Volos was unveiled at a press conference by the cultural adviser to the ATHENS 2004 Organising Committee for the Olympic Games, Thanos Mikroutsikos. 1. The Argonauts The dance theatre piece Argonauts was based on the famous legend of Jason, the Argonauts and the Golden Fleece. It had its world premieres on 8, 9 and 10 August in the Olympic city of Volos, the ancient city of Iolcus, starting-point of the Argonauts on their legendary expedition over three thousand years ago! The performance closely followd the legend: the adventures of the Argonauts on their way to Colchis, the meeting between Medea and Jason, the challenges they faced in stealing the Golden Fleece, and their successful voyage back to Iolcus, where they organised a Panhellenic Games in honour of Jasonâs father the king, who had died in the meantime, the famous Games for Pelias. âThe pieceâs main elements are music and movement in the broadest sense of the terms. Dance, acrobatics, gymnastic exercises, pantomime, constructions, props, video and 3-D projections will be in an abstract way part of the whole performance, simple but at the same time dynamic and intenseâ said Dimitris Marangopoulos, the art director. The premiere attracted considerable interest, as leading creative artists from Greece and from the Czech Republic took part:
