He is the best pianist I have ever heard, including myself. He then took off his gold watch and put it on Dimitris Sgouros' wrist as if passing on the torch. Two months later he was dead. Born in Athens, Greece in 1969, Dimitris Sgouros began his career as an 8 year old prodigy at the Athens Conservatory, where by the time he completed his studies he had received every award given. He then continued his studies at the University of Maryland and the Royal Music of Academy of London, from which he graduated with 98% - the highest mark ever granted by the Academy. In 1982 at the age of 12, Sgouros made his Carnegie Hall debut with the National Symphony Orchestra of Washington D.C., under the direction of Mstislav Rostropovich, performing Rachmaninoffs Piano Concerto No. 3. He has recorded 10 albums which are sold in many countries, with compositions for solo piano by Schumann, Brahms, Beethoven, Chopin, Liszt and Mozart and also Rachmaninoffs Piano Concerto No. 3 with the Berlin Philharmonic Orchestra, Tchaikovsky's 1st Piano Concerto and Tchaikovskys Fantasia with the London Philharmonic, and Liszts Concerto No. 2 with the Philharmonic Orchestra of Slovenia, to name a few as well as the 1st and 2nd Piano Concertos by J. Brahms with the Sofia Philharmonic Orchestra.

Do you play live? Dimitris Sgouros is a perennial favourite of festival audiences, appearing at Newport (Rhode Island), Maryland, Lucerne, Prague Spring, Budapest Spring, Menton, Radio France. He is a frequent chamber music collaborator with some of today's most distinguished artists, including violinists Shlomo Mintz, Salvatore Accardo; the cellist Mischa Maisky; and ensembles such as the Borodin Quartet, Kodaly Quartet, Sharon Quartet, Komitas Quartet, Salzburg Pro Arte Quartet, Vienna Artis Quartet, and Zagreb Soloists. Band History: In April 1982, his meteoric rise took him to Carnegie Hall in New York where he played one of the most demanding concertos in the piano repertoire, the 3rd of Rachmaninov with the National Symphony of Washington conducted by Rostropovich. This great Russian musician who has spoken of Sgouros as "a miracle - a creation from God" also conducted his London debut at the Royal Festival Hall with the same concerto in March 1983. Later in that year Sgouros returned to the Royal Festival Hall for his U.K. recital debut, and to give the U.K. premiere of the Symphonic Piano Concerto by Greek composer Kalomiris. Sgouros was fortunate to have the opportunity to play for the great Artur Rubinstein just a few months before his death. Rubinstein was deeply affected by Sgouros' playing and declared him the best pianist he had ever heard, which was an extraordinary tribute.

Highly acclaimed in the world of classical music, Sgouros has performed in major concert halls throughout the world including Carnegie Hall, Royal Festival Hall (London), Berlin Philharmonic Hall, Sydney Opera House, Odeon of Herodes Atticus (Athens). In addition to being a world-renowned pianist, Sgouros is adept at combining education and art.
