Recently I read an enlightening biography about him called 'Psychology of a Musical Prodigy' by Geza Revesz, (1925). My library obtained this for me in the UK and if they cannot find me a book here they go on a world-wide search. In fact, I've just borrowed one they got for me from a university in the USA! It's a good library. Miami Piano Festival > Meet The Artists longlost Hungarian piano genius ervin nyiregyhazi; the same year he most notably of Polish pianist Josef Hofmann, whose biography he is writing. http://www.miamipianofest.com/lecture/benko.htm
Extractions: Gregor Benko helped found the International Piano Archives in 1965 in Cleveland, Ohio and shortly after took the fledgling non-profit institution to New York. He has remained Director of IPA. In 1977 he managed the San Francisco recording sessions funded by the Ford Foundation of the strange, long-lost Hungarian piano genius Ervin Nyiregyhazi; the same year he negotiated the transfer of the collections he had amassed of piano recordings, scores, books and personal effects of great pianists of the past from IPA to the University of Maryland, now the nucleus of IPA at Maryland (IPAM), one of the crown jewels of the University Library. Subsequently he taught a graduate course at Maryland in performance practice based on historic recordings and worked for IPAM as a consultant. In recent years he has concentrated on promulgating reissue recordings of historic pianists and has produced several dozen for different labels, most notably of Polish pianist Josef Hofmann, whose biography he is writing.
