Extractions: Theatre Dance Classical Comedy ... Art Recital Studio, Rm. 2.608, MRH The Brentano Quartet proves it is possible to reinvent the tried and true. The string quartet Mark Steinberg and Serena Canin on violin, Misha Amory on viola and Michael Kannen on cello brings a youthful vitality to the compositions of such old-school masters as Haydn and Beethoven, making fans of otherwise reluctant listeners of classical music. Named for Antonio Brentano, whom Beethoven scholars believe was the composer's clandestine Immortal Beloved, this group's blissfully lyrical music captures the intensity inspired by forbidden passion and fevered emotionsthose feelings that so often comprise the foundation of music, both classical and contemporary. Cari Marshall UT SCHOOL OF MUSIC This division of UT's College of Fine Arts offers an exceptional schedule of performances throughout the year, with music to suit every taste, from early music to jazz to experimental sound collages, in recitals and concerts by students, faculty members, and guest artists. Most of its presentations get little attention, but that's no reflection of the quality of the work; there are outstanding sounds to be caught here, some of which you won't find anywhere else in town. This week: Brentano String Quartet Master Class See box for more info.
