Eliane Elias - Articles & Quotes JAZZ pianist SURPRISES FESTIVALGOERS Some of the finest examples of A ROUSING SHOW OF SPONTANEITY Her performance with Bassist Marc Johnson and http://www.elianeelias.com/articles.html
Extractions: Magazine articles and quotes "In early December, Eliane Elias brought her trio into Manhattan's Bottom Line. Elias' fans turned out en masse for the show and were not disappointed (they) played a beautifully paced set with tremendous energy, cohesion and collective intuition. An unwavering melodist, Elias projects deep emotion and a strong blues feeling in her sound, informed by a lexicon of harmony, beats and attacks. And for a climax Elias transformed the Jobim chestnut "Desafinado" into something new, mixing intense bebop, idiomatic Brazilian rhythms, free playing and homegrown musique concrete into a scrumptious, well blended feijoida." Ted Panken, Downbeat, Feb. 03 Ed Morales, New York Newsday, Oct./02 "The highlight of the evening ( Calle 54-concert at UCLA) was Eliane Elias trio. As the phrase goes they were jammin . Taking the stage in a long black dress, Elias kicked off her shoes, sat down at the piano and drifted off on a dreamy progression of Jazz chords before catching the current of Brazilian composer Jobim s tunes. Along the way, Elias playing was exhilarating."

Then, violinist Stefan Milenkovich took ill, although he is expected to return. And so, of the three works scheduled for Monday's concert, only one remained as printed in the program. In the Mozart G Minor Piano Quartet (K. 478), Adrian Brendel stepped in for deMaine. The Debussy Piano Trio in G, with Milenkovich as the violinist, was scrapped altogether, replaced by Brahms' Clarinet Trio in A Minor.

Extractions: It is observed that the whole history of jazz can be read through the chart of the stylistic development of the pianists. They started it all and other instrumentalists use the techniques which they developed. Even if the pianist is not the star, he is a kind of an aristocrat. He is practically alone and can manage by himself if necessary. Over the years, respect for the role of the jazz pianist has increased. This page will eventually be more descriptive and include many more pianists. I am gradually writing more on people and gathering links. If you would like me to hurry up on one person in particular that you see below, let me know. Tell me who I need to add to this list!!! Send me links, anecdotes, samples of their work, anything.. And yes, you can nominate yourself to be on here. This list is for any jazz pianist. Thanks to all of you who have already submitted information and links!!! Andreas Baer
