A Chicago native, Montgomery is a graduate of Northwestern University, where he studied with Gui Mombaerts. He received his master's degree from the Juilliard School of Music, studying with Martin Canin, and was awarded the Joseph Lhevinne Scholarship in Piano and remained at Juilliard to teach for one year. Montgomery first attracted national attention as a top prize winner of the Robert Casadesus Piano Competition. He is a first prize winner of the Chicago Musical Arts Competition, sponsored by the Society of American Musicians, and was a guest performer during George Bush's 1989 presidential inauguration in Washington, D.C. As an active solo performer, Montgomery has performed hundreds of recitals and orchestral appearances. A resident of Santa Fe, Montgomery is a noted and much sought-after performer at Vanessie of Santa Fe and at the governor's mansion. His finesse, likened to that of Michael Feinstein, has earned him numerous awards, engagements and laurels form the press.
