After graduating from the Music School and Music College in Izhevsk, he entered Kazan State Conservatoire (class of Professor E.Bournasheva), then took a post-graduate course at the Moscow State Conservatoire (class of Professor M.Voskressensky). Since September 1996 Evgeni Mikhailov has been a teacher of Kazan State Conservatoire, and since November 1997 - a soloist of Moscow State Philharmonic Society. In 1993 the russian piano virtuoso won the 9th V.Safonov All-Russian piano Competition in Kislovodsk. In 1995 he became the winner of the 1st A.Scriabin International piano Competition in Nizhny Novgorod (Russia), and also the possessor of three special prizes, including the S.Richter's prize. In 1996 E.Mikhailov become the laureate of the 1st G.Eriksson International piano Competition (Sweden). In 1999 he become the laureate of the 21st International piano Competition "E.Pozzoli" (Italy). Since 1995 Evgeni Mikhailov gave many concerts in Moscow, Nizhny Novgorod, Kazan and other Russian cities. In June 1995 he was invited to play as soloist with Deutsche Symphonie Orchester Berlin under the direction of V.Ashkenazy in Berlin Philharmonic Hall performing the Piano Concerto by A.Scriabin. In September 1995 he played Scriabin's poem "Prometheus" together with Russian National Orchestra under the direction of M.Pletnev at the music festivals in Germany and Switzerland.

Extractions: As the 30 international contestants became the honored guests of volunteer hosts in their private area homes, the competition and festival engaged the broader Pasadena community with warmth and vibrancy while maintaining the highest standards of excellence. The event brought together a veritable pantheon of pianistic talent. In addition to the competitors, the esteemed members of the jury represented some of the world's finest living pianists. Jurors included Byron Janis (American Co-Chair), Nikolai Petrov (Russian Co-Chair), Vladimir Ashkenazy, Earl Wild, Dmitri Bashkirov, Takashi Hironaka, Lucy Ishkanian, Nikita Juzhanin, Piotr Paleczny, John Perry, Armen Smbatian and Mikhail Voskressensky. The 30 contestants from 15 countries competed for the Grand Prize of $30,000 and a Kawai Grand Piano. Kawai also supported the Rachmaninoff International Piano Competition and Festival by providing its newly introduced, limited edition SHIGERU KAWAI EX Concert Grand pianos for all competitive rounds. These rare instruments were specially crafted and named in honor of the company's current chairman, Shigeru Kawai, who has led the company for over 50 years. Kawai also loaned grand pianos to Pasadena host homes for competitors who wished to use them for preparation during the 16-day event.
