Extractions: Home News The Company Artists ... Impressum When Anna Malikova won the first prize of the international ARD Competition (Munich) 1993, which in that year was awarded only once in all categories, this turned out to be the starting point for extensive concert tours. Before that, she had already been prize-winner of the renowned competitions in Oslo, Sydney and Warsaw (Chopin). She studied at the conservatory of Tashkent, the town where she was born, and at the Moscow Tchaikovsky Conservatory under Professor Lev Naumov. Her career as a concert pianist started in the former Soviet Union. Anna Malikova gave recitals in St. Petersburg, Omsk, Baku and Moscow and played as a soloist with several orchestras. Since the beginning of the nineties Anna Malikova has played at prominent festivals like the Berlin Festwochen, the Muziekfestival West-Brabant, the Braunschweig Kammermusikpodium and the Kultursommer Nordhessen, has given recitals among others in Bremen, Hamburg and Munich and has been guest of orchestras like the Australian Chamber Orchestra, the Academy of St. Martin in the Fields, the Warsaw National Philharmonic, the Sydney Symphony Orchestra, the Oslo Philharmonic and the Bavarian Radio Symphony Orchestra. Three times she has toured successfully and extensively Japan. Her Great Britain debut with Chopin's E minor Concerto was hailed as : "... a big, bright, impassioned performance ..." (The Herald, Edinburgh). Audience and critics have been equally impressed by Anna Malikova's interpretations. The Westdeutsche Zeitung called a recital of hers an "eminent musical event", the Süddeutsche Zeitung wrote with admiration, "Schubert's pianistic ideal was absolutely fulfilled ...", the Augsburger Allgemeine pointed out the "striking performance of the young pianist Anna Malikova." After a recital in Bremen, the Weser-Kurier talked about "an absolutely phenomenal concert of highest musical and pianistic rank."
Extractions: TACET SACD S114 TT: 72:01 (5.1 channel) Samson and Delilah, performed by the chamber music society La Trompette , with the composer as pianist, violinist Henri Berthelier, and cellist Jules Léopold. Critics instantly praised it as "monumental." The Altenberg Trio plays all of this delightful music expertly in these recordings made June 2002 in Muziekcentrum, Den Bosch. Recording engineer Bert van der Wolf has provided a very close-up aural picture with a fine blend of the three instruments, all in front with mild separtion, the piano in the center, violin and cello on right and left. The Biber SACD is an absolute delight. Bohemian-born Heinrich Ignaz Franz Biber (1644-1704) spent most of his life in Salzburg where he was recognized as one of the finest violinists and composers of the era. He wrote much "program music" including what is heard on this SACD which producers have labeled Soldiers, Gypsies, Farmers and a Night Watchman. It contains 8 descriptive pieces each of which tells a story often in vivid musical terms; discription is given of the program for each section. Perhaps Vivaldi heard Biber's music and it influenced his writing his Op. 8 concertos known as
Extractions: Nikolaus Harnoncourt apparently is recording a Bruckner symphony cycle; he already has recorded with the VPO the Symphony No. 7 for Teldec, and Symphony No. 9 for RCA ( REVIEW ). This Symphony No. 5, also on RCA, is taken from live performances June 7-14, 2004 in Vienna's Musikverein utilizing "score and revision report edited by Robert Haas (1935) & Leopold Nowak (score corr. 1951 & 1989, revisions of 1985), Complete Critical Edition of the Works of Anton Bruckner, Vienna." Of course the Vienna Philharmonic plays gloriously and their sound has been well captured in multi-channel. What I miss is a sense of massive grandeur—my favorite recording of this symphony is the live December 1986 performance with Eugen Jochum and the Concertgebouw in which 11 extra players augmented the brass section—with spectacular effect
Extractions: The International Chopin Piano Festivals in Duszniki Zdrój have been held for the last fifty-eight years. The Chopin Manor is a unique place where several generations of artists, both Chopin and piano music fans, have been convening. This is the oldest Polish music festival, and at the same time probably the oldest pianist festival in the whole world that has been held incessantly over the years. The programme of the 58th International Chopin Piano Festival is made up of twenty recitals and concerts performed by outstanding musicians, and of master classes led by pedagogues of international renown. The event is going to be the first opportunity for the overwhelming majority of the invited artists to visit Poland.
