Extractions: powered by FreeFind DUPONT - POEME/LA MAISON DANS LES DUNES TIMPANI 1C1072 The little-known French composer Gabriel Dupont died aged only 36, when he was already successful and highly regarded. A contemporary of Ravel, he studied with Widor and was greatly influenced by Faure. In his tragically short career he wrote several accomplished operatic, symphonic, instrumental and vocal works, few of which have ever been recorded. This welcome CD features premiere recordings of Poeme (an imposing piano quintet) and La Maison dans les dunes (a delightful, romantic piece for solo piano). The pianist on this excellent album is Francois Kerdoncuff, performing with the Quatuor Louvigny. REPRISE - THE BIG TRIO BELMANDO BM53001-2 At the beginning of the 20th century, three virtuoso musicians, Fred Bacon (banjo), Giuseppe Pettine (mandolin) and William Foden (guitar) wowed audiences on a national tour of the USA by playing inspired arrangements of popular classical pieces. Their magic has been recreated on this unique CD by three leading contemporary performers: Richard Walz, Douglas Back and Andrew Zohn, giving a fascinating insight into an almost forgotten period of musical history. Tracks include Manzanillo (A G Robyn), Orpheus Overture (Offenbach), Anitra's Tanz (Grieg), Poets and Peasants Overture (Franz von Suppe) and Columbus March (Giuseppe Pettine). This first recording on the new Belmando label comes complete with a fascinating booklet of notes and illustrations relating to the original Big Trio.
