Extractions: Festival Coordinator, Hartmut Boedefeld, said he was very pleased with the attendance and that the audiences had been delighted by the performances of the leading musicians from across the globe. The highlight of the Festival was the first performances in Australia by acclaimed duo pianists Eduard and Johannes Kutrowatz from Vienna. The audience was delighted by the exceptional performance of these world-renowned pianist brothers at the Middle Creek Cattle Shed in Oberon on an imported Bösendorfer 3 meter Imperial Grand Piano. Another highlight of the Festival was the concert held at Marble Hall at St Stanislaus College in Bathurst where the performance of Schuberts Trout was said by some to be the best rendition they had heard. The Festival was made possible through the widespread support of the Friends of the Festival 2001 as well as a grant from the New South Wales Government, Ministry for the Arts; the Austrian Government who brought the Kutrowatz duo from Austria to Australia and the Bösendorfer Piano Fabrik GmbH, Vienna who supplied the grand piano.
Extractions: BOCHUM - Classical pianists don't give each other "high five" - but Eduard and Johannes Kutrowatz shook hands when thunderous applause broke out in the concert hall in Bochum Municipal Park. One had the feeling that they had thoroughly enjoyed themselves on their musical tour through the 18th to the 20th century, from classical Haydn to Joe Zawinul's jazz. This enjoyment was transmitted to the audience in a highly entertaining concert at the Ruhr Piano Festival. The two brothers, born in 1962 and 1963 in Burgenland, Austria, are amongst the most distinguished piano duos - a combination which is drawn to overstepping boundaries in the repertoire. Eduard and Johannes Kutrowatz began with Brahms' Variations on a Theme by Joseph Haydn, presenting the chorale theme simply and lyrically. They avoided any Romantic pathos, relying rather on expressive tempo changes and profound sensibility. It was a huge leap from lyrical melodiousness to Jenö Takács' Fragments from a Journal (1972) for two pianos. This compositions offers mainly meditative sound expanses, soft melodies over simple dissonant harmonies which suddenly culminate in strident clusters. The work demands advanced techniques, where the players lean into the piano to pluck the strings or to damp a note. Then before the interval, they had fun with Haydn at one piano, with the alternating Il maestro e lo scolare, where the theme is ornamented with more and more elaborate arabesques.

They performed the Piano Trios D929 and D898. The Altenberg trio has recorded the World premiere of the "unabridged version" of the Trio in E-flat major, Op 100/D929. This version is about a third longer than what we are normally used to hearing, but, as Claus-Christian Schuster, the pianist of the group assured us that night, they have played the complete version to many audiences, and "there have been many survivors". This CD is available from Vanguard Classics, The Netherlands. A very good evening. January 30, and February 13, 1997, Notturno , parts 1 and 2, at the Embassy of Austria, Washington, DC. "To commemorate the 200th Anniversary of the Birth of Franz Schubert". If you havent seen this movie, you MUST see it. Notes from the program: "this breathtaking movie is based on an in-depth study of biographical and musical sources and is internationally recognized as one of the best analytical portraits of a composer. Its soundtrack is outstanding and includes samples of Schuberts quartets and symphonies, as well as piano compositions and his last mass." The first part, titled "Die Liebe hat gelogen", contains many beautiful scenes of young people dancing, gliding down a river, revelling in the open air. When the first evening ended, there was applause from the audience. Part 1 was like a "feel good" movie. The second part

My recollection is that the ideal angle leaving the capo section up to the counterbearing bar is 17 degrees. I'm not sure why that number sticks in my headI may have gotten it from a piece that Ron Overs wrote, or I may be mistaken entirely. What is the maximum angle in the capo section that you can get without risking breaking strings. I would assume the materials would make a difference too. In the capo section where the strings bear against cast iron, I would assume that they would tolerate less of an angle than where the strings where redirected by softer brass agraffes. http://overspianos.com.au mailto: info@overspianos.com.au http://www.ptg.org/pipermail/pianotech/attachments/60/87/ea/db/attachment.htm multipart/alternative attachment Previous message: Knabe counterbearing arrangement Next message: Messages sorted by: [ date ] [ thread ] [ subject ] [ author ]
