Extractions: Taking place from July 22 August 13, 2005 will be the second edition of the Prague Music Festival. The event´s central venue will be once again Prague´s Rudolfinum centre whose Dvorak Hall will be hosting seven orchestral concerts. The Festival´s three concerts of sacred music will take place in the Church of Our Lady before Tyn (Tyn Cathedral). Like in its first edition, this year, too, the Festival aspires to offer to international visitors of Prague as well as to local audiences high-quality music productions during the summer holiday season, set in some of the city´s finest concert halls or church interiors. Kenichi Ueda (Music Director, Flute / Recorder Teacher) Kenichi Ueda is the Music Director of the Childrens Talent Education Centre where he teaches flute and recorder to many young children. Kenichi graduated the Talent Education Institute Matsumoto, Japan where he studied with Dr. Shinichi Suzuki and Toshi Takahasi, founder of the Suzuki Flute School. He also studied with Marcel Moyse, Geoffrey Gilbert, Keith Underwood and Louis Moyse. Kenichi taught flute at the Preucil School of Music and Cornel College in Iowa, Summerstar Music School, and the Western Washington University in Bellingham, Washington. He was the Principal Flutist of the Skagit Valley Symphony and the Northwest Philharmonic Orchestra, and performed as a member of the Northwest Chamber Ensemble in Seattle. It was one of those dramatic reverse brain-drains with which this country has been blessed from time to time. It may have been unfair that the CBC, when it recorded him shortly after his arrival, was only willing to entrust him with repertoire from his own country, repertoire in which his playing would not have to bear comparison with dozens of competing recordings in other words. He was soon to prove that he needn't fear such comparisons. Yet there's no denying that he was awfully good at the Czech stuff. Echiquer Records has reissued some of the original CBC recordings and the results are bound to please anyone who admires Kubalek's work or is a fan of mildly out-of-the-way piano repertoire.
