More than 1100 staff members attended. Several speakers addressed the group of teachers, among them were: Board President Vicki Johnson; G.U.E.A. President Mary Pat Eul, and district Superintendent Vernon Jacobs. Keynote speaker for the event was motivaitonal speaker Mark Scharenbroich. Emmy Award winning platform speaker Mark Scharenbroich entertained the audience with motivational education stories. In his remarks to the group he highlighted what he believes makes Glendale Union different. "You have long-term leadership that believes in teachers, believes in educators and believes in kids." He continued, "As Superintedent Jacobs said 4 years ago when we took the job of superintendent, 'You must connect with kids. If kids are connected to their schools, their friends, their educators, their academics will follow.'"

Extractions: Eliberto Guerrero Jr., 51 years, of Toledo, OH, died Wednesday, August 31, in The Toledo Hospital. Eliberto was a production worker when he retired from Libbey Glass in 2002, after 27 years with the company. Preceding him in death were his father, Eliberto Sr. and his grandson, Carlito James Guerrero. Surviving are his sons, Eliberto III and Billy Guerrero; mother, Herminia Guerrero; brothers, Michael (Norma) and Orlando Guerrero; sister, Diana Guerrero and girlfriend, Adella Hill. Also surviving are grandchildren, José and Courtnie Ann Albert. JOSÉ M. HERRERA, SR. Manuel S. Torres, 94, of Cleveland, OH, died Tuesday, Aug. 30. He was born in Yauco, Puerto Rico, and moved to Cleveland in 1959. Torres had been a police officer in Puerto Rico. Following his move to Cleveland, he worked for and retired from Arrow Aluminum. Torres received the West Park Good Neighbors award for taking care of a neighbor's yard after the death of her husband. He was a member of First Hispanic Church of Cleveland and enjoyed reading, baseball, and gardening. Survivors include his wife, Amelia (nee Rodríquez); son, Ivan of Cleveland; daughter, Madeline Hutlock of Lorain; brother, José of Puerto Rico; sisters Antonia and Rosa Amelia, both of Puerto Rico; and six grandchildren and nine great-grandchildren.
