I have been around great music all my life, because my father made his whole living as a prominent violist, conductor, violinist, teacher, and composer. For the first twenty years of my working life I was a musician myself. For six years I studied music composition at the University of Illinois. I played bass trombone, piano, guitar, electric bass, and recorder. The bulk of my living during that time was made preparing music for publishing as a music engraver. (We used the old technique, utilizing music typewriters and graphic arts techniques.) These days I play only piano, mainly classical. I improvise some, but not really well.

By authorized I mean that I have personally overseen every step (and almost every note) of the final transcription process. While this edition is as close as possible to the music on the record, there are many places where notes are correct, but time is not, because on the recording I am playing completely out of metronomic time. Jtjones 02:59, 13 Feb 2005 (UTC) edit I've added some things this morning, and I've just moved chunks of the article around (separating the solo concerts from the two seventies quartets). I don't think the "Recent years" section is really necessary - I know the CFS-enforced retirement seemed like a big thing at the time and just after he returned, but looking at his career as a whole it's a minor blip, and Jarrett has made some of his strongest recordings since then, so it's probably best to add to the individual sections rather than having a "post-CFS" section. It needs mentioning, though, and I can't quite see where it should go. The "Other works" section really needs hacking into some sort of coherent shape, I don't know enough about his classical recordings to do those justice. Andrew Norman 08:02, 15 May 2005 (UTC)
