Corbett Arts Management moment of the month was provided by piano soloist marieluise hinrichs. In remarkable stroke of luck, pianist, Tatsuya Nagashima, was available. http://www.artsmanagementservices.com/artists/TatsuyaNagashima/
Extractions: Born in Taipei, Taiwan, Tatsuya Nagashima (Shaw-Tsu Chen) burst into the international limelight in 1993 as the first prize winner of Italy's Ibla International Piano Competition. Tatsuya showed extraordinary talent and promise at an early age. Born into a musical family- his father is a pianist, Pan-An Chen, and his mother is the late soprano, Min-Zu Wong- he began playing the piano at the age of four. Shortly thereafter, his family moved to Tokyo where he studied at the Musashino Academia Musicae. At the age of nine, Tatsuya gave his first public recital at Yamaha Hall of Taipei with his brother and father. By the youthful age of thirteen, he captured the first prize in the Japan National Piano Competition. Upon his graduation from high school, at the age of seventeen, he left his family to study music in the United States and has been residing here ever since. A stream of recognition, including numerous awards and first prizes at national and international competitions, mark his acceleration onto the international stage. He has won over twenty first prizes in competitions including the Los Angeles Chopin Competition and the Japan Piano Competition.

Extractions: The latest offering from PAUL VAN NEVEL and the HUELGAS ENSEMBLE focuses on one of the less heralded yet most accomplished composers of the 16th century Flemish school, Pierre de Manchicourt (circa 1510-64). Highly regarded by peers like Orlandus Lassus and Claudin de Sermisy, a large portion of Manchicourt's works had already appeared in print when he was called in 1559 to serve the court of Philip II as chapel master. His compositions, though, were tough nuts to crack. The six-voice motet "Rages Terrae" which opens the disc, for instance, is dense with layered counterpoint, replete with pungent dissonances and tricky entrances designed to keep singers on the rhythmic alert. In the Missa Veni Sancte Spiritus, texts topple over each other like simultaneous conversations. The biting cross-relationships in the Agnus Dei color this moving, contemplative movement with an almost Schoenbergian sense of harmonic anguish.

6moons Audio Reviews:muRata ES103A Super Tweeter The Sonatas of Padre Antonio Soler as performed by marieluise hinrichs on pianoare all flesh and blood. From an interview with Ms. hinrichs on Soler s http://www.6moons.com/audioreviews/murata/murata.html
Extractions: Oh to have been a fly on the wall when this request trickled up from the bowels of a lab, to be presented in their decision- making department as "oh and by the way, we'd like to spend some time and money developing a (cough, clear throat) super tweeter. Our target market are (choking back tears and/or laughter) - audiophiles ". I can think of any number of pertinent business objections and I'm not even a shareholder. Let's start with the fact that muRata manufactures components that plug into other mega-corporations' stuff; automobiles, cell phones, computers. Their typical clients are buying quantity with a capital Q, with those economies of scale playing a large part in supporting operational expenses including R&D. While an add-on super tweeter is a component, it's also a consumer product. So let's call it a component without a home, nurtured through R&D and production to be born and presented as a well-intentioned orphan to the world of high-end audio consumers. No corporate partner to plug into, no contract with a nice fat PO to write off expenses against, I’d be hard-pressed to find a US-based equivalent. This clearly represents a leap of faith and one inspired by a love of music over fanatical attention to the bottom line. Bravo!
