Daniel Gaisford-American Cellist's Biography He has collaborated with pianists Josefina Melgar, José feghali, Christian Steiner,Jeffrey Kahane and Héléne Grimaud. He also makes rare appearances with http://www.danielgaisford.com/dgbiography.html
Extractions: Also an avid outdoorsman, Gaisford spent several years in the high country of Montana and Colorado with only his cello and dog, grizzly bear, coyote and other wild animals to keep him company. During his time spent reconnecting with nature, his sound emerged even more refined and mature, and his repertoire grew twice the size. To Gaisford, making music is only part of what it means to be a cellist. He enjoys relating to people, engaging audiences of all ages, and sharing his knowledge of music with them. He is a highly charismatic performer, an engaging and articulate speaker and loves to give master classes. "Thats what it is all about, really", he says. "Sharing and passing on what one has learned from the older generations". Gaisford enrolled in the University of Southern California's Young Artists' Program, studying with Gabor Rejto. He continued his studies at the Juilliard School in New York City, where he worked with both Channing Robbins and Harvey Shapiro. While at Juilliard, he was the principal cellist of the Juilliard Symphony Orchestra. Mr. Gaisford is the recipient of several distinguished honors, among them First Place awards of the National Young Artists Competition in Los Angeles and first prize winner of the Juilliard School's 1986 Shostakovich Cello Competition, which resulted in his New York concerto debut at Lincoln Center's Alice Tully Hall, as soloist with the Juilliard Symphony Orchestra under the direction of Jorge Mester in Shostakovich's Cello Concerto No. 2.

Extractions: 12:03 AM CDT on Saturday, July 16, 2005 By SCOTT CANTRELL / The Dallas Morning News Balances were occasionally imperfect in the Ravel, with Mr. Castro-Balbi and pianist José Feghali sometimes projecting more than they needed to. The coy little hesitations before the last notes of the opening phrases were also obtrusive because they were all exactly alike. ("Never do the same thing twice," the great French pianist Alfred Cortot wisely counseled his students.) But the music made its points, and, apart from too throbbing a vibrato in the solemnities of the Passacaille , violinist Curt Thompson played with great finesse. Glazunov's Five Novelettes purport to evoke different nationalities. But from "Alla Spagnola" to "Orientale," from "Valse" to "All'Ungherese," somehow everything sounds pretty Slavic, and often like Dvorák. The suite maybe outstays its welcome, but it's pleasant enough, and it was beautifully played by violinists Akiko Tarumoto and Mr. Cole, violist Richard O'Neill, and Mr. Castro-Balbi.
