Metal Leg 6 - Interview Recordss There was a piano teacher there that was very good, a jazz pianist and I I left him to face the federality like Karl Malden did to marlon Brando in On http://www.granatino.com/sdresource/6inter.htm
Extractions: ISSUE 6, JULY 1988 Despite the way things might often appear and the reputation Steely Dan were attributed throughout the '70s, Walter and Donald have done their fair share of interviews, not only in the press but on radio, too. Certainly, I don't think they've ever been interviewed on TV and don' t think they ever will either, bearing in mind comments Donald made once about his discomfort in front of a camera but there is quite a lot of very interesting material around if you are lucky enough to find it. "Nightbird and Company" One of the first radio interviews Becker and Fagen did was with Alison Steele on "Nightbird and Company" in May 1973. She began with some basic background questions about the band, what instruments each member played and asked who was the writing team. One of the more amusing moments came when she asked the inevitable, "How do you like touring?" and was greeted with a long, stony silence, followed by an outburst of laughter. Eventually, Donald said, "It's interesting. I think it's a new experience for Walter and I, but most of the other members are experienced on the road. For us, six weeks' tour is really a long haul, but we're gettin' used to it." She later asked them about how they were being received as opening act for Elton John. Donald replied that the audience were "more than tolerant. I think our music is somewhat sophisticated the way Elton Jobn's is, especially harmonically and lyrically, and they're very receptive."

Extractions: "Restless Sea " ~ This song developed from that B minor pattern. I think I just sat down at the piano with the deliberate intention to write a tune with a relentless 1/16th note pattern. (Actually, I called it Relentless for a bit, then Relentless Sea, then Rennetless Cheese, then finally just Cheese.) One day I was putting the final touches on it in the studio and my buddy Greg Phillinganes came over to put a string line on the track. When we were listening to the playback, he started singing this cool melody over the B minor section. I was so knocked out by the new dimension that it added to the tune that we hurriedly set up mikes and had him sing it just before he left. I love how his voice and the french horn weave together. ...This is one of my favorite tunes to play.
Salon Arts & Entertainment | Interpretation Of Scenes In the director s cosmos, Kinsky is the flip side of marlon Brando s characterin Last Tango, daniel Mangin is a writer and editor living in New York. http://archive.salon.com/ent/movies/review/1999/05/21/besieged/
Extractions: By Daniel Mangin May 21, 1999 B ernardo Bertolucci describes "Besieged" as a "piece of chamber music for the cinema," the Italian director's way of acknowledging a sweep less operatic than that of previous works like "The Conformist," "Last Tango in Paris" and "The Last Emperor." Old habits die hard, though. "Besieged" unfolds on the surface as a duet between two dislocated souls, but Bertolucci can't resist working many of the psychological, sociopolitical and personal themes of his larger projects into this supposedly simpler composition produced for Italian television. The strategy at once expands on the film's source, a short story by James Lasdun, and diminishes it. At the film's outset an African woman named Shandurai, played by Thandie Newton, flees her unnamed country after its military arrests her husband. She lands in Rome, where she enrolls in medical school, supporting herself by tidying up after an eccentric English musician who becomes intensely infatuated with her. Mr. Kinsky (David Thewlis), as Shandurai always calls him, can't just come out and tell her he's mad about her. Via the dumbwaiter that connects their living quarters a townhouse he inherited from his aunt he shuttles cryptic gifts: a question mark on a blank sheet of music paper, an orchid, an heirloom ring.

Extractions: Principal Clarinet David Bourque, David Bourque has held the position of Bass Clarinettist with the Toronto Symphony Orchestra since 1983. He has played with many orchestras in Canada including the National Ballet , the Canadian Opera Company , the Stratford Festival , the National Arts Centre Orchestra and David is the editor of three previously unpublished and unavailable Mozart wind octets. Using as his source material photocopies of scores dating back to the early 1700's, he has edited a score and performance parts for four octets found in Appendix "C" of the Köchel catalogue of Mozart's complete works. The editorial policy established by David and the publisher Northdale Music Press strictly respects the source material through a detailed footnoting system, but clarifies and repairs the thousands of inconsistencies and copying "mistakes" (harmonic clashes, inconsistent dynamic and articulation markings, etc.) found in the sources. Two of the octets, K. Anh C 17.03 and K.Anh. C 17.05, have been published and are currently available from Northdale Music Press . K. Anh. C 17.04, and K.Anh. C 17.07 should be available within the next couple of years.
