Extractions: Skip to content 70 MINUTES OF QUICK FIRE SKETCHES The quintet of self-proclaimed 'violently bored performers' return to the Buxton Fringe to send us once more From Here To Absurdity. Absurd it was and quick fire sketches they were. 70 minutes however it was not! Personally I counted 100 (not including interval) - but what's a bit of false advertising when we were laughing ourselves from here to - you can guess where - for at least 95 of them. The comedy revolved mainly around stereotypes, accents and much hated institutions - always good sources of humour - but the simplicity was no drawback. Stereotypes enforced turned out to be far funnier then the opposite comedic device of going against them - and why not?! After we all know Scousers are violent and obnoxious, Brummies are all saddos and the Welsh are suicidely depressing... and isn't it funny! This said, they team were not afraid to test the water of more controversial, even black, humour - try making an audience laugh about psychotic murders, racial hate and disrespect in death. This lot did. And the audience did! My main criticism, it has to be said, comes from one lucky enough to see the team in action last year at the Methodist Church. They had found a more suitable venue in The Old Clubhouse and extended the length of their show since, however, new material was somewhat lacking. There were a number I hadn't seen before but these were in the minority. Variety was added wonderfully by the number of comedy reworks of famous songs. These were certainly the highlight but I have to add that the tune played as after show music - 'I've Heard that Song Before' had more relevance then perhaps was intended.

Bidwell pair It may not have been Bonnie and Clyde, but a crime spree ended Monday with the arrest of a man and a woman in connection with several local crimes. A combination of local law enforcement authorities combined efforts Monday to solve the rather bizarre case. According to California Highway Patrol/Drug Task Force Officer Mike Poindexter, the events started Monday just before noon when Michael Robinson, age 18, of Ft. Bidwell and Jennifer Trotter, age 24, Ft. Bidwell, allegedly stole a fifth of liquor from The Bottle Shop in Alturas. A camera recorded the pair's activity. While Alturas Police were investigating that theft and getting the identities of the pair, Robinson and Trotter walked down Main Street just over a block and stole a 1997 Chevy Suburban which belonged to Roy Ferry. The Suburban was parked on 2nd Street next to Ferry's real estate office. According to Poindexter, Alturas Police had identified the pair as being from Ft. Bidwell and were still investigating when Ferry reported his vehicle stolen. Following logical deductions, officers were dispatched to Ft. Bidwell. Meanwhile, Robinson was driving the Suburban northbound on County Road One north of Lake City when he came upon a cattle drive in the roadway. According to the CHP, he slowed only slightly and then plowed into the cattle drive.

Since he could not travel to the campus, President McCardell and a Middlebury College delegation drove to New Harbor, Maine, on Tuesday, May 11, 2004, to confer an honorary doctor of letters degree on Storrs. Storrs says that the plan was a complete surprise to him, with the College handling all the arrangements. With son Ralph and a company of 60 friends and neighbors in attendance, the ceremony took place on a beautiful day at Pemaquid Point. By a prearranged bit of telephone magic, I was able to be there for a few minutes to congratulate him for us and to listen in on the celebration, which was lively. This event tops the publication on his 95th birthday of his new edition of Gamaliel Painter , his biography of Middlebury Collegeâs most important founder. The lighter
