Extractions: J im Myers, late of the Theatre Royale, began his tenure as General Manager of Galloglass Theatre Company with flair and quality. At a function and theatrical evening at the Parochial Hall in Clonmel there was a festive atmosphere as the invited audience gathered under the Christmas lights and beside the Christmas tree to nibble the nibbles and toast in wine or such the revitalisation of Galloglass with a revamped Board of Directors, a new and capable Artistic Director in Caroline Fitzgerald and a forward plan of quality if unadventurous theatre for 2004. Guests of honour were Anna Manahan, Rosaleen Linehan, Fergus Linehan and Sebastian Barry who wrote the controversial "Haughey" play Hinterland. The programme on the night was short on speeches and high on entertainment and quality entertainment at that. Caroline Fitzgerald brought two of her successful Dublin Theatre Festival Fringe events to Clonmel. In the first section, Mary McEvoy and Colette Proctor performed as two nuns in civvies, looking back over their lives in the dubious service of God in Sebastian Barry's Fred and Jane. A delightful if slight fragment with top-drawer acting. The second half was splendid with style as Mark O'Regan and Susannah de Wrixon starred in Things That Go Bump. A cabaret style set of songs written by Fergus Linehan. Ellen Cranitch on Double Bass joined Conor on piano to provide rich and atmospheric accompaniment for a gem of a show with touches of late-night cabaret and an intellectual frisson.

Extractions: Our intrepid reporter, Lucy Davies, writes her views on the festival. Catch up with her here as she blogs her experiences...the good, the bad and the ugly. First time in Northern Ireland as well - first time in Ireland for that matter. Oh, she's gonna have fun... Keep checking back here to see what she's up to! What's On Day-by-day account April Wednesday, April 28 Derry Nice I made my way to Derry today, on the trusty Ulsterbus. The journey takes 1¾ hours, through winding roads in fields and sunshine. The intention was to go to the Christ Church to review a concert by Finghin Collins , an Irish pianist, and the youngest in this series of lunchtime concerts, broadcast on Radio 3. The concert was Romantic and virtuosic, including Brahms and Schumann, Liszt and Prokofiev. Sadly it was a concert where I didn't really connect, partly because someone very important sat next to me, which prompted a voice inside to say "Don't cough! Whatever you do!" This prompted an inevitable need, and an hour of non-coughing, particularly in the quiet places, which almost killed me. So I apologise, but this is not a concert I can now guiltlessly review.
