They were often touring during his childhood, and he was brought up in Trieste for the most part. Busoni was a child prodigy. He subsequently held several teaching posts, the first in 1888 at Helsinki , where he met his wife, Gerda Sj¶strand. He taught in Moscow in 1890, and in the United States from 1891 to 1894 where he also toured as a virtuoso pianist. He died in Berlin on July 27 1924. He was an Italian composer, pianist and conductor. His father was a talented Italian clarinetist and his mother was the German piano virtuoso Anna Weiss. Therefore, Ferruccio came to represent a remarkable synthesis of the two differing attitudes to music. Busoni was a child prodigy, and at the age of seven, he already played for an audience. In 1874, at the age of eight, he gave a concert in Trieste, many other appearances followed. I n 1875, his father Ferdinando decided to move to Vienna to allow his son to study in the prestigious Conservatory in that city. This experience, rather disappointing from a didactic point of view, was nonetheless fundamental for his discovery of new musical worlds and convinced the family to settle in Graz, where Busoni, from 1878 to 1881, took lessons of harmony, counterpoint and composition from the famous maestros W.
