His mother Maria was a professional violinist. Janigro said of himself in a 1988 interview with Oreste Bossini: "I was born into a musical, yet tragic, atmosphere. My father had wanted to be a concert pianist, but had lost his left arm to a sharpshooter in the war." Janigro studied piano first, starting at the age of six, and then began playing the cello in 1926, when he was eight years old. His father told him, "Either you will be a dedicated artist, worthy of the name, or you will be a mere amateur musician, playing for your own amusement, in which case you will become a barrister like both your grandfathers. You must decide now before it is too late." He was given a cello at that time by Giovanni Berti, who also gave him his first lessons. He fell in love with the cello immediately. In less than a year he had progressed enough to be admitted to the Verdi Conservatory in Milan, where he studied cello with Gilberto Crepax, principal cellist of the La Scala Orchestra. When he was eleven years old, through the efforts of his mother Nicola, he found the opportunity to play for

Notes On Franz Schubert By Pianist Bart Berman to compose endings to the sonata movements discussed above, are WillyRehberg Schott Edition, Ernst Krenek Universal and paul baduraskoda Henle. http://www.notesonfranzschubert.com/completing
Extractions: NOTES ON FRANZ SCHUBERT Completing the Unfinished Sonatas by Bart Berman Schuberts unfinished piano sonata pose a problem for performers: should incomplete sonata movements be played at all, or should they only be performed up to the very point where the composer ceased writing them? Should they be performed with someone elses ending, based on the thematic material Schubert left us? Among those who tried to compose endings to the sonata movements discussed above, are Willy Rehberg [Schott Edition], Ernst Krenek [Universal] and Paul Badura-Skoda [Henle]. Henceforth I will analyze the best known uncompleted sonata, piano sonata in C major, D 840 and its completion. The principal theme in the first movement ( Moderato ) is a 4/4 melody , reminiscent of the A-minor sonata D 845, composed in the same year 1825. But unlike D 845s melancholic mood, this one has a brighter, happier atmosphere. The theme is then repeated in a march-like manner, after which both second theme and codetta, leading into the key of G major, turn out to be variations of the same principal theme. Add to this the subsequent Development sections sole dependence on motives already heard, and a definition of the whole movement as monothematic suggests itself strongly. This section features the martial character of the principal themes continuation, together with an almost orchestral sense of drama. The Recapitulation omits the initial, more intimate setting of the principal theme, only to return at the final moments of the Coda.

Extractions: MARTIN KASIK, pianist "Mr. Kasik plays with a resourceful technique, fluidity, a keen sense of color and intelligence. It is disarming to experience this serious young man with his delicate manner as he plays with such emotional involvement and pianistic care." "His performance of Bach's French Suite No. 6 was lively, buoyant and lyrical. Mr. Kasik is especially drawn to the Romantic repertory. His accounts of four Chopin works were poignant and supple, and in Rachmaninoff's Sonata No. 2, he came into his own. His impassioned, poetic approach served the music well."

The interpretation of the works is lively and urging, but sensitive and well-balanced. (For instance, see the convincingly correct tempo at the beginning of the "Hammerklavier" Sonata op.106, which played by other pianists often is sounding in a hysterical or pathetic way, or the vital and colourful interpretations of the "Waldstein" Sonata op.53 and the "Appassionata" op.57.)
