(Photo: Craig Kerns) The last-minute switch became necessary after an injury piano soloist Emanuel Ax suffered Friday morning. The long, four-movement Brahms Concerto No. 2 proved too much for Ax. But conductor Antonio Pappano got the orchestra ready with the Mozart overture to the "Marriage of Figaro" and the Mozart Piano Concerto in E-Flat Major, No. 22. Thus the London Symphony Orchestra, Pappano and soloist Ax rose to the occasion. It was the final classical concert of the 2005 Florida International Festival. While the all-Brahms program held much promise for the evening, it is difficult to "out-classify" Mozart. Yet, it would have been good to hear the Brahms not only with Ax, but also with cellist Moray Welsh's solo in the third movement.
