Extractions: Welcome to the homepage for Astrophysics at Stanford. Updates are few and far between, but nominally still under construction. Not everyone is here. The SLAC Particle Astrophysics Group homepage Solar Physics Stanford is member of the consortium that is operating the Hobby-Eberly Telescope . The major members of the consortium are the University of Texas at Austin and Pennsylvania State . Associate members are Stanford, Ludwig-Maximilians University in Munich , and Georg-August University in Goettingen , Germany. This project is now in the Early Operations phase. Pictures may be found here may be found here We have a small observatory up on the Stanford hills, used primarily from undergraduate instruction. There is a new 0.6m Newtonian/Cassegrain telescope housed in the main dome and smaller telescopes are available for occasional use. Progress on upgrade of this facility is described

The Theory program administers a Monday colloquium series, a theory lunch, graduate student research and recruitment prizes, and a newsletter. Details The 12th International Conference on Capture Gamma-Ray Spectroscopy was held at Notre Dame, IN, USA, September 4 - 9, 2005. More A new result from a powerful atom smasher may help astronomers explain how supernovae create "heavy" chemical elements those that follow iron on the periodic table. Physicists using the NSCL at Michigan State University have produced eleven nuclei of the extremely elusive isotope nickel-78, enabling them for the first time to measure how fast it decays. The result was announced at a press conference at the Tampa APS meeting Srping 2005.
