Bearbeiten Nach dem Abitur studierte er Chemie in M¼nchen und promovierte bei Adolf von Baeyer ¼ber die Struktur des Cocains . 1905 erhielt er einen Ruf an die ETH in Z¼rich 1912 wechselte er an das neu gegr¼ndete Kaiser-Wilhelm-Institut f¼r Chemie nach Berlin-Dahlem und ¼bernahm 1915 in M¼nchen den Lehrstuhl seines Doktorvaters. Seine Forschungsschwerpunkte lagen im Bereich der Farbstoffchemie ( Chlorophyll H¤moglobin Anthocyane ) und den Anf¤ngen der Biochemie Um dem wachsenden Antisemitismus in den fr¼hen Jahren der Weimarer Republik zu entgehen, gab er seine Professur 1924 auf. Schlielich emigrierte er vor der Verfolgung durch die Nationalsozialisten 1938 in die Schweiz.
