V roce 1887 v Clevelandu Michelson tento pokus s ještì vìtší pøesností zopakoval. V roce 1899 se Michelson oženil s Ednou Stantonovou. Mìl jednoho syna a 3 dcery. Michelson prokázal skuteènost, že se svìtlo šíøí všemi smìry stejnou rychlostí nezávisle na pohybu jeho zdroje. Pro svùj pokus si Michelson zkonstruoval pøístroj – interferometr, pomocí kterého provedl i jiná významná mìøení. V roce 1892 se Michelson stal profesorem fyziky na nové universitì v Chicagu 1892 – 1893 pomocí interferometru Michelson srovnával délku metru s délkou svìtelné vlny a zkoumal strukturu spektrálních èar. Pozdìji sestrojil také hvìzdný interferometr, který umožòoval mìøit úhlové prùmìry hvìzd.
