Extractions: INTRODUCTIONS Chemistry, the science of the next millennium Chemistry will undoubtedly remain the central science in the 21st century. After bringing to mankind the fundamental discoveries which have changed our daily life for the last two centuries, it will now be at the heart of a new scientific era, where many sciences will merge and cross-fertilize for the benefit of innovation. Thus, chemical creativity and knowledge will be needed everywhere. However, this science, fascinating as it may be, fails, like some others, to attract young people, and suffers from a lack of information and therefore of understanding and enthusiasm from the general public. If Europe is to prosper in the 21st century and therefore provide the wealth and jobs which we will surely need in a world driven by global competition, it needs to cope fully with the challenges of scientific innovation, especially in chemistry. For that, it will need both to attract young and creative people, the scientists of tomorrow, and to drive popular support and balanced understanding. The "CHEMistry for Life"

Extractions: Structural coding of molecular and supramolecular self-organisation Suitable selection of structural units allows the design of molecular entities undergoing self-organisation into well-defined architectures which subsequently may self-assemble into supramolecular fibrils and networks. Thus, specific sequences of heterocyclic groups and of hydrogen bonding residues act as structure inducing codons. Several such processes will be presented, which lead in particular to the formation of helical architectures of both molecular and supramolecular nature by hierarchical self-organisation. They involve chains of supramolecular polymers as well as stacks of helical heterocyclic strands. Such structural coding allows the spontaneous but controlled generation of organised materials.

Extractions: ranked by total citations : Join RESCIF, the mailing list of scientific research in France The list is built by comparison of two lists : the ISI's 10858 most cited chemists list by D Pendlebury and a list (OCR-ised...) of 6565 french chemists working at CNRS chemistry laboratories in 1994. A few physicists having published some physico-chemistry papers were also located (P.G. De Gennes and C. Brechignac). Consequently, the ISI's 10858 list may contain other non-identified french peoples, possibly working in laboratories not associated with CNRS. Homonyms have been listed, suggesting that many names represent the addition of several peoples... You may also have a look inside the list of 1120 most cited physicists , some people are in both lists ! On the other hand, some may have more than 500 citations distributed in chemistry and physics so that they could appear in none... A paradox is that "chemists" with the french definition may be more cited in the ISI "physicists" list and vice-versa, meaning that the French Science disagree with scientific journal declarations to ISI about what they really are...
