Extractions: Leo Esaki is a Japanese physicist who shared half the Nobel Prize in Physics in with Ivar Giaever for the discovery of the phenomenon of electron tunneling . The second half of the prize was awarded to Brian David Josephson . He is known for his invention of the Esaki diode , which exploited the electron tunneling phenomenon. Esaki tells us that his father was an actor and his mother an artist. He graduated in 1947, which was a difficult time for Japan and he decided to go into industry to try contribute to the economy through working in electronics. The company that he worked for later developed into Sony. His early work was on the vacuum tube which was the dominant electronic device prior to 1947 when the transistor was invented at Bell Telephone and the new filed of semiconductor physics was born. Leo Esaki is both an experimentalist and a theoretician.
Extractions: The annual meetings are a forum for encounters and international communication bringing together chemical, economic, medical and physics Nobel laureates and young scientists in a relaxed atmosphere to develop open-minded. This unique formula also attracts many representatives of the media to encourage the dialogue between science and society contributing to a general understanding of science. Extractions: From Munich to Lindau : A trip by train from another German town of Muenchen (i.e. Munich) to Lindau takes one through a beautiful ranges of mountains full of greenery and foliage. The nature is at its best here with its full beauty. Landscapes which are breath-taking, trees of different dimensions, the never end-in-sight green turf all over the earth, and perfect natural shades of backgrounds make this part of the world quite different even for those who might be frequent visitors to such lands. People seem to be obsessed with flowers and in particular red roses. Almost at every door front, every street corner, every side wall is full of creepy flowers and red roses with full bloom. Lindau City: The ancient medieval settings of natural beauty, architecture, narrow streets, closely packed tall houses, common water collecting centers (which are now turned into artistic fountains), stone tiles all over the ground are visible charms of this little and extremely magnificent town of Lindau at the southern tip of Germany. The town's population is a little more than twenty five thousand.

Extractions: Another major characteristic is to offer the graduate schools that parallelly consist of master's programs and doctoral programs. The former graduate programs are two-year master degree programs for producing professionals with academic and technical expertise and providing re-educational opportunities for the general public. The latter graduate programs are five-year consecutive doctoral programs for producing independent researchers capable of conducting original research. Recently, specialized doctoral programs have been established for educating professionals with specific expertise. In addition, Tokyo Campus offers evening graduate programs for the general public. Since its foundation, the University of Tsukuba has endeavored to promote interdisciplinary researches, rather than cloistered in narrow, specialized fields. This academic effort is exemplified by Special Research Projects and University Research Projects. The projects might be regarded as a forerunner of Center of Excellence (COE).
