The translation addresses an Anglo-American audience, which is a more complex and varied cultural and linguistic readership than the source text (=ST) one, who is composed of Sardinian and Standard Italian readers. Giovanissima, invia alcuni racconti ad un giornale di moda pubblicato a Roma e cerca tramite rapporti epistolari di entrare in contatto con il mondo letterario. A 24 anni pubblica il suo primo romanzo Anime oneste . Romanzo famigliare, con la prefazione di un critico assai famoso: è il primo riconoscimento autorevole alle sue qualità di scrittrice. Nel 1900, diventa moglie di un funzionario statale, si trasferisce a Roma dove soggiornerà per il resto della vita.
