Bereits zwei Jahre später gelang dem nun als Research Fellow und Mitarbeiter von Robert Andrews Millikan am Caltech arbeitenden Anderson die Nachweis des von Paul Dirac 1929 postulierten Positrons mit Hilfe der Wilson-Kammer . Gemeinsam mit Seth Neddermeyer wies er nach, dass hochenergetische Gammastrahlung bei der Durchdringung von Materie die Emission von Positronen bewirkt. Im Rahmen dieser Arbeiten konnte ebenfalls die Antimaterie -Natur von Positronen und Elektronen gezeigt werden. Für seine Entdeckung des Positrons erhielt er den Nobelpreis für Physik , zusammen mit Victor Franz Hess für dessen Arbeiten, die

Vystudoval prestižní Kalifornský institut technologie v roce 1927 s titulem vìdeckého bakaláøe v oborech fyzika a inženýrství a doktorskou hodnost získal tamtéž v roce 1930. Po úspìšném dokonèení studia nastoupil na místo èlena vìdecké rady, kde zùstal až do roku 1933. Poté pùsobil jako asistent a od roku 1939 jako profesor fyziky. Ve váleèných letech se aktivnì podílel na projektech zadávaných Národní bezpeènostní komisí a Úøadem pro vìdecký výzkum a rozvoj. Hlavním jeho oborem byl výzkum v oblasti Roentgenova záøení. Zabýval se prostorovým rozložením fotonù produkovaných Roentgenovými paprsky v rùzných plynech. V roce 1930 s profesorem Millikanem zaèal se studiem kosmického záøení, které nakonec vedlo k objevu pozitronu. Pomocí Wilsonovy komory zjistil, že pozitron má hmotnost elektronu, ale s kladným elementárním nábojem. Vìnoval se studiu energetických pomìrù kosmického záøení a úbytkùm energie pø vysokých rychlostech jakými se pohybují elektrony na svých drahách. V roce 193 spolu s Dr. Neddermeyerem dokázali prakticky, že pozitrony vznikají pøi pronikání gamma záøení nìkterými materiály.

En 1932 descubrió el positrón o electrón positivo, una de las partículas subatómicas fundamentales. Por este descubrimiento recibió, junto con Victor Franz Hess, en 1936 el Premio Nobel de Física. Ese mismo año, confirmó también de forma experimental la existencia de partículas nucleares elementales llamadas mesones, que habían sido pronosticadas en 1935 por el físico japonés Yukawa Hideki.
