In June 2003, Israeli Violinist Ittai Shapira made his Carnegie Hall debut premiering the shulamit Ran Concerto with the Orchestra of St. Luke's. Other recent engagements include a tour with the Budapest Symphony under Tamas Vasary, his 3rd performance at the Barbican Center with the English Chamber Orchestra, a UK tour with the Orchestra of the Swan, the Shanghai Symphony, the BBC Concert Orchestra and 5 CD releases.
Shapira's discography represents his interest in both standard an unusual repertoire, and includes sonatas by Debussy, Janacek and Strauss and an album of virtuoso pieces (inluding a number of his own transcriptions) for Meridian Records. His critically acclaimed orchestral debut CD for EMI ("the Bruch reminded me of Isaac Stern's" (Fanfare Magazine)) featured the Bruch Concerto in G minor, Bloch's Baal Schem, Sarasate's Zigeunerweisen and Fantasy for Violin and Orchestra by Kenji Bunch, dedicated to Shapira. His most recent release in which he premieres works for violin and orchestra by Dave Heath has been chosen "Disc of the month" by MusicWeb. He was also the dedicatee of Rechtman's Jerusalem of Gold and Jazzical and has premiered works by Luciano Berio. Biography
The musicians of Concertante are outstandingly gifted young artists who have won major national and international music competitions. As solo performers they have graced the premiere stages of the world from New York’s Carnegie Hall to London’s Royal Festival Hall to Shanghai’s Grand Theatre. Concertante draws from its rich pool of artistic talent to perform a wide array of repertoire ranging from quintets by established masters to less commonly performed nonets and other varied combinations of instrumentalists.
The ensemble has an interest in furthering the cause of new music and has to date given the world premiere performances of new works by Justine Chen, Tina Davidson, Steven R. Gerber, David Ludwig, Jan Radzynski, Sheila Silver, Josef Bardanashvili ,and Oded Zehavi. It has also offered infrequently performed chamber works by such celebrated composers as Enesco, John Adams, Schoenberg, Martinu and Schulhoff. As an ensemble, Concertante has performed across America, gathering rave reviews, appearing on Minnesota Public Radios’s “St. Paul Sunday” and in December 2002 toured in the People’s Republic of China. Concertante is Resident Chamber Music Ensemble of the Whitaker Center for Science and the Arts in Harrisburg, PA.
In the 04-05 season, Concertante’s appearances included, among others, performances in Buffalo, Honolulu, Denver, Cleveland, San Jose, Wolf Trap, and a return to Duke University.

July 27, 2005 • 7:30 PM Ariel Sta. Ana received his musical training from the University of Santo Tomas Conservatory of Music under Prof. Dalmacio Cruz and at the Elizabeth University of Music in Hiroshima, Japan, where he earned his Master of Music degree in Clarinet Performance in 1996 under the tutelage of Prof. Tadayoshi Takeda, and his Master of Music degree in Orchestra Conducting in 1999 under the tutelage of Prof. Kazukiyo Inoue. He was a two-time winner of the of the National Music Competitions for Young Artists (NAMCYA), having won second prize in 1988 and first prize in 1992. He has attended the master classes of Andrew Marriner, principal clarinetist of the London Symphony Orchestra; Jost Michaels, German clarinet virtuoso; and Karl-Theo Adler of the Aulos Woodwind Quintet. Mr. Sta. Ana was a member of the Manila Symphony Orchestra in 1988 and was concertmaster of the ASEAN Youth Symphonic Band held in Singapore in 1992. In Japan, he was a member of the Hiroshima Wind Orchestra for two years and attended the clarinet classes of renowned French clarinetist Michael Arrignon. He was a founding member of the Hiroshima International Music Friendship Club and performs regularly with the International Music Festival in Hiroshima, Japan.

Ittai Shapira grew up in Israel, where he studied with the renowned pedagogue Ilona Feher. He continued his studies at the Juilliard School with Dorothy DeLay and Robert Mann. A recipient of the prestigious Clairmont Award, Shapira has recently founded the Ilona Feher Foundation with esteemed colleague Hagai Shaham, dedicated to the nurturing and promotion of young Israeli violinists. He is also the Classical Programming Director for Bayside Productions, a company which produces special Concerts and events. In addition to being featured as soloist with Orchestra, recitalist and chamber musician he will be presenting a series along with Glen Roven at the Mountain Laurel Center for the Arts. Ilona Feher
Born, December 3, 1901, Budapest, Hungary. Died, Holon, Israel, January, 1988. Violinist, Master Violin teacher. She conertized all over Europe until WWII. Escaped interment and joined the partisans. In 1949, emigrated to Israel. Taught at the Rubin Academy in Tel Aviv, many of Israel's new generation of great violinists, including Pinkas Zukerman and Shlomo Mintz, and over 250 other students. FOSTERING THE CAREERS OF PROMISING YOUNG ISRAELI VIOLINISTS
MISSION STATEMENT

Established in 2003, the Ilona Feher Foundation is a nonprofit organization committed to nurturing the artistic development of exceptional young Israeli violinists. The foundation honors the late violin pedagogue Ilona Feher (1901-1988) whose guidance helped shape some of Israel's greatest violinists, notable Pinchas Zukerman, Shlomo Mintz, Shmuel Ashkenasi, Hagai Shaham and Ittai Shapira.
The foundation is set up to award promising young violinists grants which may be applied towards various performing opportunities, recordings, or instrument loans.
In addition, the foundation also provides opportunities for private lessons, master classes, and other intensive courses in Israel and abroad.
ABOUT ILONA FEHER:
In more than fifty years of teaching, Ilona Feher (1901-1988) nurtured some of the finest violin virtuosos of our generation. Her students, among them Shmuel Ashkenasi, Pinchas Zukerman, and Shlomo Mintz, have collaborated with virtually every great orchestra, gracing the world's most prestigious stages from New York's Carnegie Hall to Shanghai's Grand Theater. Recordings of artists taught by Ms. Feher can be found on every major recording label. She was essentially a pioneer in Israeli cultural, changing not only Israeli cultural life but nurturing its first cultural ambassadors. A holocaust survivor, Ms. Feher felt deeply responsible for the continued welfare of young Israeli artists and dedicated her life to her students. he is fondly remembered for her determination, commitment, and strong will.
