Rosand (now in his early 70s) has stood to one side from the hurly-burly of lionising coteries. One has the impression that his independence of outlook may have cost him 'friends' in high places. Rosand's own furrow is evident from his discography which includes concertos by Wieniawski, Hubay, Joachim, Godard and Arensky. He has not neglected the classics though many of these were recorded after his forays into the romantic reaches of the nineteenth century shelving. His background is well worth noting. Born 15 March 1927, Hammond, Indiana. His orchestral debut was with the Mendelssohn concerto with Frederick Stock and the Chicago SO. His first teacher was Leon Sametini. Later he worked with Efrem Zimbalist. He was often called on to deputise to cover the illnesses of more celebrated fiddlers. After Menuhin fell ill he stepped in at a concert given by the ill-graced Fabien Sevitsky with the Indianapolis SO. The work was the Bruch concerto. When Szigeti cancelled a concert with the Little Orchestra of New York conducted by Thomas Scherman his offer to deputise was accepted. He had never played the programmed works (the Busoni concerto and Berlioz's Reverie and Caprice

"She reaches out to the audience's heart ... There are no other musicians who can mesmerize an audience like she does."
Hi-Fi Review, Hong Kong
"Assertive command and sensitive playing."
The New York Times
"There was a strong personality behind her playing ... Sweetness of touch and command of form..."
The Times, London
"An accomplished virtuoso and a musician of unfailing taste."
Hauts de Seine, Paris
"The sumptuously virtuoso performance naturally demanded several encores. A dazzling experience."
Aftenposten, Oslo
"Extremely talented violinist who possesses wonderful temperament and unfailing musical sense." Nathan Milstein
Ragin (RAH-gheen) Wenk-Wolff enjoys an extraordinary career. She began playing the violin at age 11, and started studies with her first professional teacher at age 13. Only one year later, at the age of 14, she performed Mozart's G Major Violin Concerto with her own cadenzas, and since then she has regularly been a soloist with all the Norwegian symphony orchestras, including the Oslo Philharmonic, the Bergen Symphony Orchestra, and the Norwegian Broadcast Orchestra. She received much acclaim for her performance with orchestra of the Vieuxtemps "Ballade & Polonaise" which was broadcast on Norwegian Television and BBC Radio 3 in England. Her remarkable playing and mature and moving interpretation of works such as Mozart's haunting Sinfonia Concertante instantly brought her to the forefront among Norwegian artists. At 17, she made her official debut in Oslo, which caused a sensation, and for which she won the Norwegian Debut Prize. In October 1984 she had her very successful London debut at the Purcell Room (South Bank) and the same month gave a recital in Paris in conjunction with an exhibition of her own drawings.

Homage to Sarasate

"A brilliant introduction to a young musician with a long career ahead… This Chicago native plays Sarasate seemingly as easy as tying a shoelace… This is the finest Sarasate exhibition since Aaron Rosand."
Soundings Magazine "What a pleasure to hear this delicious music performed with such verve!… Barton demonstrates wonderful musicianship throughout this recital, along with a technique which is excitingly dazzling even in this era of dazzling techniques."
Fanfare Performance 10/9 Sound Quality
"Barton's generous Sarasate program (78 minutes!) shows the quality that separates art from prestidigitation: poetic sensibility… Barton applies her agile, stylish, warmly colored playing to a cluster of Spanish Dances and the famous Carmen Fantasy. I used this sonically vivid CD to audition loudspeakers at the Summer Consumer Electronics show in Chicago, and at every stop the mix of infectious music and Barton's crisp, flavorful playing piqued listeners' curiosity. It's an endlessly repeatable delight."
CD Review "…..beguiling... moments of an almost excruciating beauty… [Barton] leans into the sensuous curves of the melodies in a most enticing way."
