xx HOME Symphony mixes old, new
Credit: Chad Dally/City Pulse By Lawrence Cosentino Even the grandest house of music falls the moment
the air ceases to vibrate, so the effort to keep a
regional orchestra going must sometimes seem like
rebuilding the Colosseum from scratch each year. It's
a challenge relished by Judith Moore, general manager
of the Greater Lansing Symphony Orchestra, who is
proud of the Capitoline Hill-scale mix of bread and
circuses packed into the Symphony's 2001-02 season.
We are reaching out to all kinds of people people
of all cultural and economic backgrounds and all ages," says Moore. This year, the GLSO's half-dozen bread-and-butter symphonic concerts balance traditional platters of Beethoven, Tchaikovsky and Rachmaninoff (Mozart is taking a breather this year) with lesser-known works by contemporary American composers such as George Walker and John Corigliano. For those listeners unable

THE GREATER BRIDGEPORT SYMPHONY "There is nothing like a concert experience! It simply can’t be duplicated on a CD or a television screen. It starts the moment you enter the hall. There’s already a feeling of anticipation an expectation that what’s about to happen will transport you to a special emotional and spiritual plane. Each concert is unique. No one knows ahead of time how it will turn out: There’s a charged atmosphere, a feeling of intensity, drama, and elation. Once the music making begins, the communication between audience and performers is electric. The unpredictable nature of each concert, the incredible concentrated energy of 65 or more members of the orchestra connecting together through the conductor, and the seemingly effortless virtuosity of guest artists make each performance a marvelous feat. A successful concert will leave you with the equivalent of a runner’s ‘high’ an exhilarating feeling for body and soul." - - Gustav Meier Celebrating his 34th year with the GBSO, Maestro Meier is internationally respected as a brilliant conductor and truly remarkable teacher.

Season Preview: Classical Music
A lthough the halls of Princeton provide the cherished heart of our region's classical music, the eyes and ears of classical music lovers are on Trenton's War Memorial this fall as the illustrious hall emerges from its extensive, 4-year-consuming, politically-tinged facelift. Already gleefully tuning up for the grand re-opening are the Greater Trenton Symphony Orchestra and Voices Chorale, scheduled to celebrate together with a Christmas Holiday Spectacular concert, Saturday and Sunday, December 12 and 13. In the new year, Boheme Opera looks forward to once again reclaiming its home ground for its spring production of "Rigoletto," and the Greater Trenton Symphony Orchestra and Wesminster's Schola Cantorum team up for an encore, rededication concert, Sunday, March 7. Wary of running the risk of unforeseen construction delays, the New Jersey Symphony Orchestra has elected to wait to celebrate its War Memorial Grand Re-Opening Gala until Wednesday, March 10, a safe six months after the renovation's oft-scheduled "completion date." The NJSO celebratory concert features Frederica von Stade, with maestro Zdenek Macal, in works by Beethoven and Danielpour. NJSO then moves back to its Trenton home in earnest, with four additional concerts scheduled there through May, re-joining its popular series at Richardson Auditorium in Princeton and the State Theater in New Brunswick.

September 18-25, 2004 The Unsinkable Russian National Orchestra sets off on its 2004 Volga River Cruise: Great Music in the Heart of Russia RNO fans from Japan and Germany flew to Russia specially for the Volga Tour. "A tremendous tour!" said Keiko Kuwahara (in photos, on right, with Rie Fuessel). "I plan to return again next year." Rehearsals took place regularly on board the ship, and guests were welcome to listen in. But there was also time for rest and relaxation. Young musicians Philip Kopachevsky and Yuri Revich performed as soloists in concert with the RNO. Here's an interesting story about him. (Notice one of the pieces talked about in the last paragraph...now that's an Armenian for you).
Cheryl North Interviews Constantine Orbelian
ANG Newspapers Classical Music Column - February 7, 2003.
Imagine the following scenario for a terrific movie: A young American concert pianist arrives in cold blustery Moscow on a December day in 1990 to begin rehearsing for his upcoming appearance with the Moscow Chamber Orchestra. He is primed and ready to solo in the daunting Shostakovich Piano Concerto No. 1.
Then, the conductor of the orchestra suddenly takes ill. He dies. The concert is to be canceled. But, like the coming of the cavalry to save the besieged fort, the young American suggests that he can not only play the scheduled Shostakovich Concerto, he can also wield a baton! Like John Wayne with sword held high rallying the troops, he proposes to play the concerto and conduct the orchestra too. They doubt, of course. But after he displays his prowess during a rehearsal, they decide they must allow him to try.
The big night arrives. He swashbuckles through the performance in heroic fashion. The concert is a smashing success! They ask him to stay on as their new leader. Cut to the credits.

Current News Archives Hey all, So here's what's been going on. I left New York for LA / San Diego in the beginning of February and got right to work. I did a bunch of gigs throughout the Los Angeles area with my friend, singer songwriter Bobby Syvarth www.bobbysyvarth.com playing flute. I even put a peddle board together for the killer sounds!!! Then I played drum tracks on the new Luke Neeley record down in San Diego. I then met up with singer songwriter Lee Nestor www.leenestor.com back up in LA and had the opportunity to play with her at the renown Whiskey-A-Go-Go in Hollywood with Jason Page , (One of the best singers on the planet) playing Bass and Tommy Andrews on guitar. Tommy and I did the Belinda Carlisle The Go Gos ) and Steve Jones Sex Pistols ) tours together in the past. It was good fun and Lee 's brilliant!!! While in LA, Steve Stevens , (Guitar virtuoso w/ Billy Idol ) and I got to spend a lot of time catching up with each other. He's one of my closes friends in LA today without a doubt. He's in Studio now with Idol working on a new record. I'm sure it will be great!!! I even met up with one of my oldest friends
