JOSEPH SMITH LAMB Son of Abel Lamb and Almira Merrill Written by Harriet Jane Lamb Stradling
Some time after the organization of the Church, Brigham Young went on a mission to Canada, during the course of which he went down into New York State. While there he called at the home of the Lamb family. They were deeply impressed by his eloquence and sound doctrine and accepted the gospel after careful and prayerful investigation. In gratitude to the missionary, they named their next child Brigham Young Lamb. They had been members of the Church for three years when their sixth son and seventh child was born. He was named Joseph Smith Lamb in honor of the Prophet.
During his infancy the family moved to Missouri, only to be driven out in the expulsion of the Saints from that place. Little Joseph’s early years were spent in moving from place to place with his parents as they heeded the call of the Church in those troubled times. They were privileged to have the Prophet and his brother, Hyrum, visit their home. They were witnesses to the building up of Nauvoo the Beautiful, from which they were driven by mobs. Joseph was seven years old when the family arrived in Salt Lake City. At first they lived in the Eighth Ward, and he helped his father in the cooper shop, learning the trade in his youth. Being gifted musically, he learned to play the violin very well. In fact, Brigham Young once said that Joseph Lamb was his favorite dance fiddler.

Reviews The Gallic Touch
by Gary Lemco
With the final, rollicking and irreverent strains of Ibert's Divertissement (1930) resounding through the Los Altos United Methodist Church, Sunday, February 2, 2003, conductor David Ramadanoff concluded a thoroughly ingratiating, predominantly French program with the Master Sinfonia Chamber Orchestra. This second afternoon concert by the fine, local ensemble featured violinist Joseph Gold in the only non-Gallic offering, the Violin Concerto (1982) by Filip Pavlov, as well as orchestral selections by Ravel and Poulenc, whose G Minor Organ Concerto enjoyed the splendid playing of Larry Crummer.
Maurice Ravel's bittersweet Le Tombeau de Couperin (1919) opened Ramadanoff's program. The four-movement suite has a romantic character in the face of World War I, although its "ancient style" is a throwback to the idealized age of the French clavecinists . The Master Sinfonia applied a shimmering patina to this delicate score, whose oboe soli and occasionally pentatonic writing have some of the wistfulness of the composer's

Violinist Joseph Gold - one of America's leading champions of the works of Niccolo’ Paganini - and the distinguished young Italian pianist Marco Cadario will be performing a special program in honor of the legendary sorcerer of the violin's 222nd birthday. "Niccolo’ Paganini was the most fabulous violin virtuoso of all time" writes Mr. Gold. "During his brilliant career, Paganini engaged his most famous rivals in a series of musical duels. With the above thoughts in mind, "Paganini: His Friends And Competitors" will feature works by these composers juxtaposed in ways that will surprise and delight violin buffs and music lovers alike. In his Duetto Amoroso - where the violin simulates the roles of a man and a woman - Paganini in effect is playing a duet with himself. Mr. Gold will present the American premiere of Paganini's Inno Patriottico , a previously unpublished work recently unearthed by an Italian friend of Mr. Gold's, who requested that he give the first modern performances.
