Former PACO cellist Matt Haimovitz, now an international soloist, will perform with the orchestra's especially strong violin section. This year, the group will perform the difficult Rossini String Sonata Number One, Tchaikovsky's Rococo Variations and Haydn's Cello Concerto in D Major. The concert takes place at 8 p.m. at Spangenberg Theatre, 780 Arastradero Road, Palo Alto. The show costs $8. San Mateo Times
Keith Kreitman
San Mateo Times, June 14, 2005
Redwood Symphony excels in Mahler's monumental work When I was active in symphonic music in the 1940s and 1950s, the works of Gustav Mahler were somewhat of an anathema, rarely performed and generally looked upon as a disorganized mess. It took New York Philharmonic conductor Leonard Bernstein in the 1960s to teach us how wrong we were and to initiate moving Mahler into the pantheon of musical greats. And it is music director Eric Kujawsky of the Redwood Symphony who repeatedly re-enforces that lesson locally.

EUGENE FODOR, VIOLINA/KIYOSHI TOMAGAWA, KLAVIR
“Witches Brew”
(Clarity Recordings, HDCD)

About Us Our Season Tickets Past Artists ... Home Past Artists Established in 1892 as the Tuesday Morning Musical Club, Tuesday Musical's first concerts were held in local homes and the Fontenelle Hotel ballroom. After 1911 it expanded into local theaters and emerged as a non-profit concert series of international artists, open to all. Many of the artists, unknown at the time of their engagement here, have since become legend; some have been relegated to oblivion, but all contributed in some measure to the musical life of Omaha. It has been estimated that in the first 70 years following the change from club to non-profit organization, Tuesday Musical brought 95 percent of the world's greatest artists to Omaha. Here is a partial list of artists who have been part of this pioneer endeavor:
Charles Wakefield Cadman, pianist
Paul Kennedy Harper
Max Landow, pianist
Eugene Ysaye, violinist
Raphael Navas, pianist
Harold Bauer, pianist
Louise Homer, contralto
