Julia Fischer
(Violinist) Julia Fischer, born in Munich, Germany, in June 1983, has already established herself as one of the foremost young violinists. Critics in Germany have said of her that she is "not a talent, but a full-fledged phenomenal violinist," ( Die Welt ) and that she is "only 15, but stylistically already mature.... She takes your breath away," ( Stuttgarter Nachrichten ). Of her 1999 Concertgebouw recital debut, the music critic for Die Volkskrant wrote, "After Schubert's Sonata in A, op.162, where astonishment about her abilities created musical ecstasy, in Grieg and Brahms she arrived at interpretations that only a few mature violinists could equal." Julia works with such internationally acclaimed conductors as Christoph Eschenbach, Lorin Maazel, Yehudi Menuhin, Bernhard Klee, Asher Fish, Marek Janowski, Johannes Goritzki, Michael Helmrath, Jeffrey Tate, Simone Young, and Justus Frantz and with a variety of leading German, British, Polish, French, Italian and Slovakian orchestras. Julia has performed in Germany, Switzerland, Austria, Italy, Slovakia, France, the United Kingdom, Portugal, Cyprus and Japan, with concerts broadcast on TV and radio in every major European country, as well as on many US public radio stations. In the 1999-2000 season, Julia returns to the Ravinia Festival to perform chamber music with Maestro Eschenbach at the piano, performs Brahms' Concerto for Violin in G-major with Giuseppe Sinopoli and the Accademia Nazionale di Santa Cecilia, makes her Wigmore Hall recital debut with Jean-Yves Thibaudet on piano, and concertizes throughout Germany with orchestras such as the Bayerishes Rundfunksinfonieorchester, the Kolner Kammerorchester and the Stuttgarter Philharmoniker.

IN HER DEBUT RECORDING Editor's Choice, Gramophone Magazine, Jan. 2005 November 10, 2004 (Moscow) The latest addition to the Russian National Orchestra's discography - violin concertos by Khachaturian, Prokoviev and Glazunov, conducted by Yakov Kreizburg - marks the recording debut of German violinist Julia Fischer . The acclaimed 21-year old virtuosa hand picked the RNO for her premiere album and says, "What a joy to play with the Russia National Orchestra." The initial reviews laud their performance as "crisp, bright and agile" ( The Scotsman ) and of "dazzling vitality" ( Ramifications - Bruxelles The RNO dedicated the recording to the memory of Los Angeles-based music philanthropist Richard D. Colburn, in tribute to his love of music and of life. Mr. Colburn, who was an accomplished violist, died last May. The only Russian orchestra ever to win a Grammy Award (2004), the RNO is also one of the world's few major ensembles with a long-term recording agreement. Members of its prestigious Conductor Collegium are well represented in the RNO's discography, on current and future releases featuring conductors

15. Julia Fischer Plays Sibelius, Appreciated By Lawrence Budmen
The young German violinist julia fischer has those attributes and more. Her powerfulperformance of this Sibelius masterwork formed the centerpiece of an
Dazzling technique
Julia Fischer plays Sibelius,
appreciated by LAWRENCE BUDMEN
The unique musical language of the Sibelius concerto is without parallel in the violin-orchestral literature. Fischer and the Dresden orchestra played the score with an idiomatic affinity and visceral immediacy that were stunning! Fischer's intense attack and dazzling technique were fully equal to the stormy drama of the opening Allegro moderato . Her rhapsodic treatment and expressive phrasing of the richly textured harmonics in the movement's second theme were exciting. In the Adagio molto Allegro, ma non tanto finale produced a cascade of virtuosic razzle dazzle that was always wedded to a sophisticated conception of the score's grand, arching line. An explosive performance of a twentieth century violinistic monument! Lawrence Budmen , Miami Beach, USA home Ensemble home

Fischer: More than a pretty face, and no strings attached, either
By Kyle MacMillan

Denver Post Fine Arts Critic

The fast-rising violinist Julia Fischer makes her Aspen Music Festival debut for her first performance anywhere of B©la Bart³k s Violin Concerto No. 1. Just about everyone would agree that German-born violinist Julia Fischer is an unusually attractive young woman. And it's a sure bet that the flattering photos of the 22-year-old on posters and compact discs have helped sell recordings and concert tickets. But make no mistake: Fischer, who makes her second appearance in Colorado tonight, considers herself more than a pretty face. And she does not mince words about anyone who might pay attention to her just because of her appearance. "It should be irrelevant," she said in virtually perfect English from her home in Munich. "And if it's not, then I'm sorry. I'm not willing to get people into a concert hall with my looks. And I'm not trying to get people to buy my CD over a certain picture. I think that's stupid.
