On this page: Wikipedia Mentioned In Or search: - The Web - Images - News - Blogs - Shopping violinist Wikipedia violinist A violinist is an instrumentalist who plays the violin . The terms fiddler or fiddle player are also used. In classical music the "fiddle" terms are usually somewhat informal or jokey: they are more standard expressions in folk music. In between there are nuances of meaning and usage which are difficult to formalize. Composer-violinists were common in the Baroque era. Sometimes violinists can be identified by a red fleck on the left side of their neck. This is due to long contact of the corpus of the violin with the neck, which the players normally hold on their left side. To freely move the left hand to press the strings, the violin is mostly only supported by the neck and the shoulder. Nevertheless some players also support it with their left hand. Many violinists start playing when they are quite young.

Lessons from the Past:
Great Violinsts of the Bell Telephone Hour The digital age increasingly gives us the chance to experience performances from an era of less technology and more cultural sophistication. In the late 1950’s and early 1960’s The Bell Telephone Hour was television for the commercial airwaves, that would be unheard of today. Featured on the show were complete movements of major classical repertoire, performed by some of the most renowned artists of the day. A full symphony orchestra was hired just for the occasion, an expense no current television broadcaster would undertake.
Digital Transfer by Video Artists International has made it possible for us to watch some of the old tapes of the show in a DVD entitled Great Violinists of the Bell Telephone Hour . The DVD makes for worthy viewing: Past violin luminaries are revealed, often in very fine form. Taped in 1959, Isaac Stern’s rendition of Camille Saint Saens Rondo Capriccioso is ravishing. Also from 1959, Zino Francescatti plays beautifully in Debussy’s

40. VIOLIN JOKES
At Jascha Heifetz s debut at Carnegie Hall in 1917, violinist mischa elman stoodup at the break and wiping his face, he commented It s hot in here!
http://suewidemark.com/violinjokes.htm
VIOLIN JOKES
What's the difference between a violin and a viola?
There is no difference. The violin just looks smaller because the violinist's head is so much bigger. What's the difference between a violin and a fiddle?
A fiddle is fun to listen to. Why are viola jokes so short?
So violinists can understand them. How do you tell the difference between a violinist and a dog?
The dog knows when to stop scratching.
How do you keep your violin from getting stolen?
Put it in a viola case. What do a violin and a lawsuit have in common?
Everyone is happy when the case is closed. Why do people tremble with fear when someone comes into a bank carrying a violin case?
They think he's carrying a machine gun and might be about to use it.
Why do people tremble with fear when someone comes into a bank carrying a viola case?
They think he's carrying a viola and might be about to use it.
Did you hear about the violinist who bragged that he could play 32nd notes?
The rest of the orchestra didn't believe him, so he proved it by playing one. How many second violinists does it take to change a light bulb?
