The Manchester, NH Urban Open Space Web Site Plans for a Hackett Hill Industrial Park hinge on the sale and renovation of French Hall, a building currently owned by the City of Manchester, that was previously the home of UNH-Manchester. The City's development plans, initially financed by the sale, would destroy animal habitat and cause species extirpation in the heavily-forested area that begins directly behind the building. In addition, the planned extensive deforestation and construction will be located in direct apposition to a 600 acre Preserve, the Manchester Cedar Swamp, that is owned and managed by The Nature Conservancy of NH . The Preserve contains highly specialized swampland that would be jeopardized by closely-adjacent development. ABOUT THIS WEBSITE ABOUT NEW HAMPSHIRE ABOUT MANCHESTER SUGGESTED READING MANCHESTER'S HACKETT HILL DEVELOPMENT PLANS - "GREEN VS GREED" ARCHIVES A Hackett Hill preserve-development issue - whether or not the construction of a business/industrial park should occur in Manchester's northwest corner - has been a major theme of this Web site for a number of years. The additional loss of open space to extensive residential development has also been questioned here. Much of this material has been transferred to an Archives section which readers can access if they are lacking background information or just need a memory jog. 2. "Injustice anywhere is a threat to justice everywhere."
Martin Luther King, Jr.

"The world is a dangerous place, not because of those who do evil, but because of those who look on and do nothing."
Albert Einstein

"The evil of the world is made possible by nothing but the sanction you give it."
Ayn Rand

"Why should we be in such desperate haste to succeed, and in such desperate enterprises? If a man does not keep pace with his companions, perhaps it is because he hears a different drummer."
Henry David Thoreau

"The only true wisdom is in knowing you know nothing..."
"The unexamined life is not worth living."
Socrates
(he gets two quotes because he is so awesome!) "A true seeker could not accept any teachings, not if he sincerely wished to find something. But he who found, could give his approval to every path, every goal; nothing separated him from all the other thousands who lived in eternity, who breathed the Divine." Herman Hesse in Siddhartha "Do you sing and dance?...Uh, no....I thought not...Well, try something new each day, that's my motto. After all, we're given life to find it out. It doesn't last forever."

BIBSOCAN The Internet Discussion Group on Bibliography
BIBSOCAN is an open, unmoderated discussion group dealing with the subject of bibliography. While groups such as SHARP-L, EXLIBRIS and BIBSOFT discuss ancillary aspects, they do not address themselves specifically to questions of a bibliographical nature. A majority of bibliographers are self-taught. This group serves as a forum where knowledge of techniques are shared and solutions to problems proffered and those who are more skilled share their experience and knowledge with those who are still finding their way. News of bibliographical events, conferences, meetings and publications are also posted. Although the list is sponsored by The Bibliographical Society of Canada /La Société bibliographique du Canada, it is the hope of the Society that the group will not be confined to Canadian bibliography and bibliographers but will be international in scope. To subscribe send the following command in the body of a mail message to LISTSERV@LISTSERV.UTORONTO.CA

153. PyChecker: A Python Source Code Checking Tool
A tool for finding common bugs in Python source code. It finds problems that are typically caught by a compiler for less dynamic languages, like C and C++. open Source, BSDlike
http://pychecker.sourceforge.net/
PyChecker is a tool for finding bugs in python source code. It finds problems that are typically caught by a compiler for less dynamic languages, like C and C++. It is similar to lint. Because of the dynamic nature of python, some warnings may be incorrect; however, spurious warnings should be fairly infrequent. PyChecker works in a combination of ways. First, it imports each module. If there is an import error, the module cannot be processed. The import provides some basic information about the module. The code for each function, class, and method is checked for possible problems. Types of problems that can be found include:
  • No global found (e.g., using a module without importing it)
  • Passing the wrong number of parameters to functions/methods/constructors
  • Using format strings that don't match arguments
  • Using class methods and attributes that don't exist
  • Changing signature when overriding a method
  • Redefining a function/class/method in the same scope
  • Using a variable before setting it
  • self is not the first parameter defined for a method
  • Unused globals and locals (module or variable)
  • Unused function/method arguments (can ignore self)
  • No doc strings in modules, classes, functions, and methods

OpenComal OpenComal is a highly portable and free implementation of the Comal programming language written by moi. Currently supported platforms are Unix, MsDos and Win32 (95, 98, NT, 2000, XP and whatever they come up with next :-) Comal is a crossover between Basic and Pascal, with the best features of both and none of the drawbacks of either. Look at this sample program . This program takes a number and writes out the correct pronounciation in Dutch (handy uh? :-). Take a look at this screen shot Tue Oct 19 10:14:29 CEST 2004
There is now a MacOS X version of OpenComal. Download the binary here
More news: We are working at setting up a Comal program repository. Look here
  • Unstable release: OpenComal 0.2.7-pre1 is now available for download here . Be sure to read the CHANGES file!!!!
The most important changes in this new release pertain to support for MODULEs. Read the white paper for more information.
  • Stable release: You can download OpenComal 0.2.6 here
This gives you the source and pre-built binaries for MsDos, Win32 and Linux. And here is the README I also wrote an article on OpenComal.

We are the young men and women whose names the government uses to justify a war that destroys lives, a war that attempts to attain the unattainable objective of an America free of drugs. We want answers from those that wage war in our name. With hundreds of thousands of Americans behind bars for drug offenses, why are drugs purer and more prevalent? With billions of dollars invested in incarceration and interdiction, why are treatment needs unmet a majority of the time? Why has the government sacrificed our freedom, safety, and health to the Drug War? Congress Fails To Help Students
Take action NOW to thank members that voted to help students and spank those who put Drug War politics ahead of education. Click here to send the message that Congress should help students working to get their lives back on track.

Home - Robert M. Young What's New Search Feedback ... The Writings of Professor Robert M. Young 'The Naturalization of Value Systems in the Human Sciences' For some time I had been writing about the pervasive influence of functionalism across a wide range of disciplines. I was then invited by the Course Team to contribute a Unit to a new course on 'Science and Belief: from Darwin to Einstein', so I adapted my argument to that pedagogical context and mode of expression. The results is a rather odd mixture of critique and exposition, but I cannot recast it at this distance in time. It is, I think, my clearest expression of the critique of scientism, in particular, biologism, in the human sciences.
