My website is smaller than it once was. Please visit again, however, since new materials will continue to appear occasionally. * My book Mathematical Constants is now available for online purchase from Cambridge University Press (in the United Kingdom and in North America ). It is far more encompassing and detailed than my website ever was. It is also lovingly edited and beautifully produced - many thanks to Cambridge! - please support us in our publishing venture. Thank you. (If you wish, see several very kind reviews . You can also search the book via Amazon and Google by keyword.) Here are errata and addenda to the book (last updated 8/11/2005), as well sample essays from the book about integer compositions optimal stopping and Reuleaux triangles . Here also are recent supplementary materials, organized by topic: Number Theory and Combinatorics Inequalities and Approximation Real and Complex Analysis Probability and Stochastic Processes

mean you'd have to provide the double constant, too. Interesting option. I'll probably play with it one day. When these use the same (long double) constant internally? radius; if a here, their own wants long Thanks, Joerg

I have simply used these to provide the code I posted. And I am still offering
this code (devised by Michael Kenniston) as a possible way of presenting math
constants. (Ultimately of course, it is the value int MACRO file that is the
real source - even if not used directly, I propose to generate both files form
the same program using NTL). Your views are most welcome because I feel that it is practical usefulness that is the major factor in presenting these definitively accurate values.

Are the Digits of Pi Random?
A Berkeley Lab Researcher May Hold the Key
by Paul Preuss
A researcher at the Department of Energy's National Energy Research Scientific Computing Center (NERSC) at Lawrence Berkeley National Laboratory, and his colleague at the Center for Advanced Computation at Reed College, have taken a major step toward answering the age-old question of whether the digits of pi and other math constants are "random." Their results are reported in the Summer 2001 issue of Experimental Mathematics
Pi, the ubiquitous number whose first few digits are 3.14159, is irrational, which means that its digits run on forever (by now they have been calculated to billions of places) and never repeat in a cyclical fashion. Numbers like pi are also thought to be "normal," which means that their digits are random in a certain statistical sense.
David Bailey Describing the normality property, David H. Bailey, chief technologist at NERSC, explains that "in the familiar base 10 decimal number system, any single digit of a normal number occurs one tenth of the time, any two-digit combination occurs one one-hundredth of the time, and so on. It's like throwing a fair, ten-sided die forever and counting how often each side or combination of sides appears."

Limits The FLA Format covers only a part of all the things you are able to realize using the SWF technology. There are a lot of third party products on the market exporting SWF files and some of them use special features available only in the SWF Format (like the more basic and flexible "SWF-ActionScript" which reveals a variety of functionalities "FLA-ActionScript" simply doesn't have yet). The attempt to create a FLA from such a SWF will (partially) fail since it is impossible to recover elements or features that don't exist in the year 2005 (and probably never will). In detail :
"FLA-ActionScript" vs. "SWF-ActionScript"

Layers

Library and Layer - names and folders

Buttons
... up All information about the Scenes of a FLA are lost, for they are compiled into one main timeline. Since a FLA could have different scenes containing similar Labels, GoToLabel-Actions are usually converted to matching GoToFrame-Actions. The Labels of every Scene however are compiled into the one timeline. That causes a lot of SWFs to have a main timeline with different Labels carrying identical names. If you use IMPERATOR °FLA to create a FLA from such a SWF, Flash will report a warning concerning the duplicate Label. "FLA-ActionScript" vs. "SWF-ActionScript"
