Skip Navigation Text Only COLLEGE LEVEL EXAMINATION PROGRAM (CLEP) CLEP Institutional Codes COLLEGE LEVEL EXAMINATION PROGRAM (CLEP) CLEP consists of a series of examinations that test an individual’s college level knowledge gained through course work, independent study, cultural pursuits, travel, special interests, military service schools, and professional development. The American Council on Education (ACE) recommends the minimum score for awarding credit but each institution determines its acceptable score and the amount of credit granted for each examination. CLEP General and Subject examinations are accepted for credit by more than 2,900 colleges and universities. PRIOR TO TESTING, THE EXAMINEE NEEDS TO KNOW THE INSTITUTION’S ACCEPTANCE POLICY AND PASSING SCORE REQUIREMENTS. Beginning in July 2001, the College Board introduced a computer-based version of the CLEP tests at national test centers (colleges and universities). There are over 1300 colleges and universities that administer the CLEP eCBT tests. Effective 16 February 2004, DANTES authorized up-front funding of the CLEP eCBT test fee for eligible military and civilian examinees at national test centers. The current fee is $55 per test.

You'd like to go back to school to finish your degree, but you're overwhelmed by all the classes you'll need to take. After all, there are already so many other demands on your time-work, family, household, and other responsibilities. Tuition and fees can also be daunting if your employer foots only part of the bill. To top it off, some of the classes may be a waste of time and money because you already know the material. Relax. There are other ways to easily obtain college credit towards an accredited degree program. One in particular can substantially reduce your class time and costs-and give you credit for what you know-enabling you to earn your degree much faster than you ever thought possible. It's called the College-Level Examination Program When I first learned about CLEP back in the fall of 1993, I had completed just 12 credits through the night school program at Immaculata College in Pennsylvania. At the time, I was in my late 20s, working full-time at a stressful marketing job, stringing for a local paper, running a household, and trying to balance church, family, and social activities. I hadn't officially matriculated into a degree program because I didn't want to commit a decade or more of my life to school.

Veteran Affairs General Information College Level Examination Program Bloomsburg University participates in the College Level Examination Program (CLEP) of the College Entrance Examination Board. CLEP enables Bloomsburg University to grant course credit for scores earned on written examinations provided by CEEB/ETS. www.collegeboard.com/clep There are two types of CLEP examinations: General examinations. The general examinations cover the broad areas of English composition/essay, humanities, college mathematics, natural sciences, and social sciences and history. The General exams may only be taken before a student earns any college credits. Subject examinations. The subject examinations cover selected courses and may be taken prior to enrolling at Bloomsburg University or during the period of enrollment. Enrolled undergraduate students are able to earn a maximum of 30 credits toward a degree if they can meet or exceed the score requirements. A scaled score of at least the 50th percentile is required for credit to be awarded. Bloomsburg University may award up to six credits for each of the general examinations and three credits for each subject examination except for the various composition examinations for which no credit is awarded.
