engineering firm that specializes in onsite and online consulting for vibration troubleshooting, failure analysis, and litigation support.
http://www.structuraltechnology.com/
STRUCTURAL TECHNOLOGY CORPORATION is an forensic engineering consulting firm specializing in vibration troubleshooting and failure analysis. Since its founding in 1986 by Chris D Powell, STC's approach has been simple:
  • First, positively identify the basic nature of the problem.
  • Second, gain a thorough understanding of why that problem exists.
  • Finally, design an efficient and effective remedy.
Simple as this may seem, dependable solutions that do not create new problems can be designed only after complete evaluation and proper analysis. STC takes great pride in its reputation for finding economical fixes to industries' most difficult problems. STC provides: vibration troubleshooting, rotating equipment analysis, stress analysis, failure analysis, noise analysis, modal analysis, strain gage testing, forensic engineering, litigation support and expert witness services.
Remember: "If your product rotates or reciprocates, if your structure shakes and breaks, then STC is your vibration consultant."

The Structural Engineer is published twice monthly by IStructE and is a major vehicle for communication with members worldwide. First published in 1923, the Journal is supplied to all members of IStructE and to additional subscribers including libraries, universities, research bodies and various companies. Each issue of the Journal contains news, features, Verulam, usually 2 papers and a products and services section, as well as recruitment advertising. The diary appears in the first issue each month, and information compiled by Institution departments, such as book reviews, exam reports and membership changes when it is available. Features may be commissioned or written in-house and cover a wide range of material, some of which is designed to fit into a features list of monthly themes. Peer reviewed papers are prepared as they are approved for publication. Once a year the Journal carries a supplement covering the Institution's Structural Awards.
Feature Event Gold Medal Address: Rising to the challenge IStructE Gold Medallist Leslie Robertson flies in from New York to present his lecture, ‘Rising to the Challenge: a life in structural engineering’. One of the world’s leading designers of tall buildings, including the World Trade Center Towers in New York; the China Bank, Hong Kong; and World Financial Center, Shanghai, his career demonstrates courage, creativity and determination.

Description
Engineering Structures aims to provide a forum for a broad blend of scientific and technical papers to reflect the evolving needs of the structural engineer. Particularly welcome are contributions dealing with applications of structural engineering principles and theories in all areas of technology. The journal aspires to a broad and integrated coverage of the dynamic effects of wind, waves and earthquakes and of the modelling techniques whereby the structural response to these loadings may be computed.
The scope of Engineering Structures encompasses, but is not restricted to, the following areas: infrastructure systems; ocean engineering; earthquake engineering; wind engineering; blast loading; structure-fluid-soil interaction; structural reliability/stability; life assessment/integrity; hazard assessment; random vibrations; engineering plasticity; computer-aided design; optimization; expert systems; experimental modelling; dynamic properties of materials; modelling of concrete/cracking; economics.

They investigate the behavior and design of all kinds of structures, including dams, domes, tunnels, bridges, and skyscrapers, to make sure they are safe and sound for human use. Structural engineers must have a college degree in civil, mechanical, or structural engineering. Fewer than 70 colleges in the United States offer a major in structural engineering. These colleges require students to take courses in physics, mechanics, blueprint reading, architecture, math, and materials science. In addition to school, many states require that structural engineers pass a written test and have least two years of experience in the construction industry before working as a structural engineer. Who are Structural Engineers? Structural Engineers are men and women who have risen to the challenge of a creative profession. Working, often in a team, they develop the constructions that shape the world.
First they will conceive a structure; considering strength, form and function. Then they will choose appropriate materials - such as steel, concrete, brick or timber -calculating and checking to ensure that the construction will remain safe and serviceable for the length of its intended lifetime.
Structural Engineers are people who enjoy challenge, opportunity, responsibility and excitement.
