    • "I was good in science and math, but I was not quite sure what I wanted to do with my life when I was a high school senior. I took a chance on Chemical Engineering. I'm glad I did." This happens to be a typical statement that you can hear from a corporate executive, chemical-plant operator, consultant, design engineer, bioprocess engineer, environmental engineer, pharmaceutical researcher, petroleum producer, biomedical entrepreneur, medical doctor, lawyer, and stock broker. The point is that the Chemical Engineering curriculum can prepare you for many different careers including those you have not even dreamed of yet. On top of this, the Chemical Engineering salaries are high. According to a 2002 Salary Survey, the average starting salary for chemical engineers was $51,254, the highest of all the college majors. home programs facilities student groups ... exchange program Welcome Importance of Petroleum Engineers Petroleum engineers make the world run. Petroleum engineers search the far corners of the earth and the world's oceans to find and produce oil and gas supplies. They keep energy flowing to light and heat our homes. They fuel our transportation systems and keep our industries operating. They spark the creation of thousands of products, from medicines and plastics to textiles and cosmetics. And they do all these things with the highest regard for protecting the environment. If you want to make a difference in the world, make a career in petroleum engineering. Enter a World of Choices and Challenges Petroleum engineering isn't just one job. It's many different specialties, each with its own unique challenges and rewards. You can be a drilling engineer, working with geologists and contractors in designing and supervising drilling operations, many of which are multi-million-dollar ventures. You can work as a production engineer, developing processes and equipment to optimize oil and gas production. Or you can become a reservoir engineer and help determine ideal recovery processes, estimate the number of wells that can be economically drilled, and simulate future performance using sophiisticated computer models. You can be a manager, an entreprenuer, economist, or environmental/safety specialist. Petroleum engineers may also find rewarding opportunities in such fields as teaching, consulting, and government services. Groundwater hydrology, environmental engineering, safety engineering are other specialities that find opportunities within the petroleum industry. But your choices don't stop there...

Petroleum Engineering Department University of Miskolc Hungary Welcome to the homepage of the direct descendant to the World's First Mining School founded at the Hungarian mining town Selmecbánya in 1735. Although the 50-year life of the Petroleum Engineering Department is like a blink of the eye in the 260-year long history of the Mining School, we are proud to present our achievements on the World-Wide-Web The Petroleum Engineering Department of the University of Miskolc is the only institution in Hungary offering Petroleum Engineering programs. It has been training capable petroleum engineering graduates since 1951 and has awarded more than 650 M.S. degrees so far. Graduates work in all sectors of the Hungarian petroleum and gas industry and in many of the oil producing countries of the world. More than ten years ago the Department started offering graduate programs in English for international students. Curricula are comparable to those offered by leading US schools and provide students comprehensive engineering and advanced courses. The Department shares two floors with the Department of Natural Gas Engineering in one of the biggest buildings on the Miskolc University Campus . Total office space, including laboratories, is over 10,000 sq. ft. Laboratories support course work and research in core and fluid analysis, drilling fluids and crude oil rheology, and well control. Students have access to a variety of computers for course work and research, both on and off campus. Two test wells (250 ft. Total Depth) with fluid loops serve to introduce students to well operations.
