The steady advance of technology makes it easy to lose light of the great progress made from one decade to the next in broadcast equipment design. Only by stepping back and comparing where we are with where we have been can the true distance covered be measured. The advance of technology generally can be divided into decades, as illustrated in the accompanying

History of Technology
This is a guide to a variety of sources of information related to the history of technology. The history of technology may be studied from technical, contemporary, and historical viewpoints. For example, if you are doing research on the history of the washing machine, you may want to understand how the mechanisms work, what people were saying about washing machines during periods when they were used, and the development and use of washing machines over a period of time. You may want to get started by searching for books in the HELIN catalog at http://helin.uri.edu . Leave the Quick Search on "keywords" and type “history and your topic” (for example “history and bathrooms”). You may need to be creative to come up with appropriate terminology to represent your topic, or look at the Library of Congress Subject Headings on the shelves behind the URI Reference Desk. 100. Engineering Information Technology
history of engineering in the information revolution. A history of Computing technology. Englewood Cliffs, NJ PrenticeHall. Wintermantel, K. 1999.
http://www.creatingtechnology.org/history3.htm
Engineering an endless frontier home engineering branches engineer ... information revolution Engineering the information age World War II, the Cold War, and globalization put the spur in engineering and technology. Turbojet and rocket engines propelled aeronautic engineering into unprecedented height and spawned astronautic engineering. Utilization of atomic and nuclear power brought nuclear engineering. Advanced materials with performance hitherto undreamed of poured out from the laboratories of materials science and engineering. Above all, microelectronics, telecommunications, and computer engineering joined force to precipitate the information revolution in which intellectual chores are increasingly alleviated by machines. Engineering developed extensive theories of its own and firmly established itself as a science of creating, explaining, and utilizing manmade systems. This period also saw the maturation of graduate engineering education and the rise of large-scale research and development organized on the national level.
