The Clare Boothe Luce Program stands alone as the single most significant source of private support for women in science, engineering and mathematics. Professor James Beck was recently honored by the International Association for Structural Safety and Reliability with with a senior research prize in computational stochastic mechanics. He was recognized for recently developed numerical methods to compute uncertainties and reliabilities of linear and nonlinear systems of large dimensions. In particular, Beck's subset simulation technique is a significant breakthrough that makes him "a pioneer in the implementation of the methods of computational stochastic mechanics in engineering applications."
