Welcome to the Michigan Tech Department of Biomedical Engineering web site. The department was established in the fall of 1998 through a $1million Whitaker Foundation grant. Currently, the department has four (4) full-time Ph.D. professors encompassing the research areas of Biomaterials, Bioinstrumentation, Biomechanics, Human Physiology, and medical heat and mass transfer. Biomedical Engineering has been a popular discipline on the Michigan Tech campus for nearly 20 years. The department currently has over 180 enrolled undergraduate students and has seen explosive growth in recent years. Active research is also being carried out with faculty in the department advising graduate students in other disciplines and undergraduates in Biomedical Engineering. What is Biomedical Engineering?

87. Annals Of Biomedical Engineering Editorial Site
Interdisciplinary, international journal published as the official journal of the biomedical engineering Society (BMES). Produced bimonthly by the American Institute of Physics.
http://www.bme.gatech.edu/abme/
The Annals of Biomedical Engineering (ABME) is an interdisciplinary, international journal published as the official journal of the Biomedical Engineering Society (BMES). It is published by Springer. The journal publishes original articles in the major fields of bioengineering and biomedical engineering, as well as review articles, special communications (e.g., methods, technical reports), rapid communications, history and teaching articles, book reviews, and letters-to-the-editor. A major aim of bioengineering is to provide integrated approaches to the solutions of biological and biomedical problems. The philosophy is to provide engineering approaches to enhance the power of the scientific method, and to maintain a balance between experimental observation and quantitative analyses. While the development of theory and of mathematical models is strongly endorsed, these should be evaluated wherever possible using biological data from experiments that test specific hypotheses. The journal will publish comprehensive papers. Please submit only complete works not currently being considered for publication elsewhere. Submit your manuscript on-line at Editorial Manager.

BME Biomedical Engineering Department Welcome to BME
the newest department at OGI. The Department of Biomedical Engineering brings together clinicians, researchers, educators and students with backgrounds and interest in biology, medicine, and engineering. Building on existing strengths of the OGI School of Science and Engineering, the School of Medicine, and the School of Dentistry, the BME department provides unparalleled opportunities for students to excel and contribute to this rapidly growing and important field.
Our vision: to provide superb education and research in biomedical engineering, with a primary focus on applications to human health.
Future is bright for Biomedical Engineers Biomedical engineering is the fastest growing engineering field in the world today. Employment for biomedical engineers is expected to increase by 31.4% by 2010, about twice the national average for all occupations. In Oregon alone, some 185 bioscience companies employ more than 3000 people, and have experienced an astonishing 10% growth over the 1999-2002 period, during which the economy was in recession. Aims and Scope: The primary aims of the journal are to provide a means of communicating the advances being made in the areas of biomechanics and biomedical engineering, and to stimulate interest in the continually emerging computer based technologies which are being applied in these multidisciplinary subjects. The journal will also provide a focus for the importance of integrating the disciplines of engineering with medical technology and clinical expertise. Such integration will have a major impact on health care in the future. High quality research articles form the main body of the journal. These contributed papers will cover both the engineering and clinical aspects of computer methods in biomedical engineering. Topics covered include the mechanical response of bone and bone/tissue/ implant analysis, modelling of biomaterials, material identification, human body impact, computer assisted surgery, surgical simulation, computer animation, and medical imaging. Dental mechanics, biofluids, cardiovascular mechanics, soft-tissue modelling, and joint/ ligament mechanics are also topics of primary importance. As well as providing a forum where advances in these complex areas can be published and discussed in open academic debate, the journal also contains review and feature articles, technical notes and short communications and a news and reviews section.
