Hurricane Katrina Update: As with most disasters, census figures reveal that Hurricane Katrina disproportionately affected the poor and the disadvantaged. According to an analysis done by the Associated Press: _Nearly 1 in 4 people in the hardest-hit areas lived below the poverty line, approximately double the national average. _4.5 percent of those in the disaster area received public assistance compared with 3.5 percent nationally _ One in 100 households in the most affected areas didn't have decent plumbing (running hot and cold water, a shower or bath and an indoor toilet), twice the national average. _In one of the worst hit neighborhoods in the heart of New Orleans, the median household income was less than $7,500. Nearly three of every four residents fell below the poverty line, and barely 1 in 3 people had a car.

CVS Write Access Resources Bochs History Bochs Links Related Links Screen Shots Welcome to the Bochs IA-32 Emulator Project Bochs is a highly portable open source IA-32 (x86) PC emulator written in C++, that runs on most popular platforms. It includes emulation of the Intel x86 CPU, common I/O devices, and a custom BIOS. Currently, Bochs can be compiled to emulate a 386, 486, Pentium, Pentium Pro or AMD64 CPU, including optional MMX, SSE, SSE2 and 3DNow! instructions. Bochs can be compiled and used in a variety of modes, some which are still in development. The 'typical' use of bochs is to provide complete x86 PC emulation, including the x86 processor, hardware devices, and memory. This allows you to run OS's and software within the emulator on your workstation, much like you have a machine inside of a machine. For instance, let's say your workstation is a Unix/X11 workstation, but you want to run Win'95 applications. Bochs will allow you to run Win 95 and associated software on your Unix/X11 workstation, displaying a window on your workstation, simulating a monitor on a PC. Bochs 2.2.1 released on July 8, 2005

The Advanced Linux Sound Architecture (ALSA) provides audio and MIDI functionality to the Linux operating system. ALSA has the following significant features:
  • Efficient support for all types of audio interfaces, from consumer soundcards to professional multichannel audio interfaces. Fully modularized sound drivers. SMP and thread-safe design. User space library ( alsa-lib ) to simplify application programming and provide higher level functionality. Support for the older OSS API, providing binary compatibility for most OSS programs.
  • ALSA is released under the GPL (GNU General Public license) and the LGPL (GNU Lesser General Public License). We need users to use, test and provide feedback, programmers to work on low level drivers, writers to extend and improve our documentation, and application developers who choose to use ALSA as the basis for their programs. If you are interested, please subscribe to a mailing list We welcome all constructive ideas, opinions and feedback!
